The First Church of Christ, Scientist is Hiring a Promotion and Events Specialist Near Boston, MA

Department: Promotion & Design Services Group
SUMMARY

The Promotion and Events Specialist supports the global promotion activity of The First Church of Christ, Scientist [TFCCS] and of the Christian Science Publishing Society [CSPS].

This position is part of a collaborative promotion service within the Promotion & Design Services Group [P&DSG]. P&DSG is a service-based organization that shapes and guides, from a metaphysical foundation, the promotion and extension of products, services, and events that constitute the “healing and saving” resources of The Mother Church. The Group shapes, supports, and shepherds promotional activities, ensuring an inspired and healing voice and message for each product and need. The promotion service operates as a center of excellence to maintain appropriate quality and consistency across the organization. P&DSG collaborates with client departments to develop and implement the overall promotion vision of the publications, products, communications, marketing and promotional materials of TFCCS and CSPS.

Under the direction of the Promotion and Events Manager, the incumbent carries out all functions of this position in alignment with the organization’s vision and mission and the department’s principles.

This position may participate in agile product development as a cross-functional team [CFT] member or subject matter expert [SME] as assigned. CFTs are structured and empowered to organize and manage their own work in such a way as to complete the priorities established by the Product Owner with quality ensured by the Design CoE. CFT work may include but is not limited to vetting, implementing, troubleshooting, managing, and overseeing the promotional campaigns of The First Church of Christ, Scientist on an ad hoc basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Planning (40%)

  • Create, support, and execute special events to promote products and initiatives.
  • Events include, but are not limited to concerts, community events, webinars, live podcasts, and hybrid events
  • Includes audience segmentation, use of event software, creating invitations, working with on-site and off-site A/V, meeting staff, etc.
  • Executed with an eye toward positive customer and audience experience, and outcomes

Promotion (30%)

  • Create and implement promotional campaigns for clients across the organization that extend client strategy. Campaigns include but are not limited to special series, publications, periodicals, print promotions, and peer-to-peer promotions including special events.
  • Includes audience segmentation and customization
  • Use of social media platforms to promote and extend product promotions

Promotional Copywriting (20%)

  • Write advertising, point of sale, and promotional copy for clients throughout the Church for the Web, digital media, and print
  • Posts for social media--Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat, LinkedIn

Social Media (10%)

  • Contributes to strategy discussions with P&DSG management and client departments.
  • Supports the implementation of social media strategy
    • Determines best platform for message
    • Writes promotional copy for various social media channels
    • Coordinates efforts with design and analytics

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or higher, 5 years of experience

Knowledge/Skills

Familiarity with Scrum and agile practice desired. Strong event planning experience preferred, with a proven record of success. Advertising agency experience preferred.

Client & Team Skills

Strong oral and written communication skills. Client and team interfacing ability with confidence. Strong interpersonal skills and effective relation building capacity with clients, team, and manager. Strong project management skills and organizational skills. Strong creative problem solving and innovative skills. Ability to use strong analytical and management skills to solve complex issues and support team success and continuous improvement. Must be detail oriented and well organized. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. A proven ability to meet deadlines, multitask and work under pressure while going above-and-beyond the minimum when the opportunity presents itself.

Technology Skills

This position requires strong computer skills, a working knowledge and proficiency with Google Suite, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn). A working knowledge of Dropbox, SalesForce, Slack, Trello, and event planning software is preferred.

Work Environment

This position regularly works in an office environment.

Membership in The Mother Church required; Primary Class instruction preferred.
