The Concrete Company (Foley Products) is Hiring an Environmental and Safety Manager Near Columbus, GA

Job Description:


General Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of environmental, health, and safety programs within our Company. The primary goal being to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, minimize risk, and promote a safe and healthy working environment for employees. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, working knowledge of EHS practices and the ability to develop and implement effective strategies and policies. This is not a remote position, and reports to the VP Aggregates/New Business Development.

Essential Job Accountabilities:

  • Develop, improve, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies and procedures that align with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices.
  • Analyze a wide array of environmental and safety requirements including permits, plans, and regulatory requirements and determine applicability to our operations.
  • Obtain all environmental permits necessary for the operation of quarries, sand and gravel, and other related operations to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, modifications, and renewals.
  • Prepare and maintain plans (SPCC, SWPPP, fugitive dust, etc.)
  • Maintain an environmental and safety compliance database which coordinates compliance reports to agencies or parties, coordinates monitoring to meet permit conditions, and brings all worksite facilities into compliance with environmental/safety regulations.
  • Track and complete reporting requirements (discharges, storm water, emissions, TRI, DMRs, etc.) and manage recordkeeping requirements.
  • Maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) which coordinates legal requirements and compliance tasks, establishes environmental objectives and targets, determines roles and responsibilities for environmental activities, and maintains a document and record system.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement. Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other relevant stakeholders. Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS-related communications and inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Implement and manage EHS performance metrics and reporting systems. Generate regular reports to communicate progress, highlight areas of concern and recommend improvements to senior management.
  • Provide guidance and support to plant managers and employees on EHS matters, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident prevention techniques.
  • Interact and work with employees from all levels within the organization to build and maintain a safety culture based on employee engagement and a goal of zero incidents.
  • Lead and participate in citation meetings with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure EHS considerations are incorporated into all aspects of operations, including facility design, equipment selection and process modifications.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and communicate relevant changes to stakeholders. Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on EHS requirements and best practices. Prepare/distribute/maintain safety topic material for weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Lead and coordinate annual refresher training.
  • Provide direction on plant training curriculum for new hires and required annual training. Lead efforts to annually review Part 46 training plans and ensure compliance with MSHA regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence. Track and report on incident trends and make recommendations and recommend measures to reduce risk and enhance safety.
  • Complete Tier II annual reporting.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Approves invoices for payment.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.
Experience and Skills:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience (5 years) working in an EHS role, preferably in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Experience in mining, construction or similar industries is highly advantageous.
  • Experience developing and implementing EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigation, perform risk assessments, and develop and execute corrective action plans.
  • Self-starter that takes the initiative and brings projects to completion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, etc.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills.
  • In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, standards, policies, and procedures- specific to GA and AL such as MSHA, OSHA, EPA, ADEM, etc.
  • Ability to establish relationships with agencies and represent the organization in a public forum.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment with limited supervision.
  • Clean MVR
  • Ability to travel.
