Seeking both a Full-Time and Part-Time Registered Dental Hygienist

Job Description: Job Summary: 

The Registered Dental Hygienist performs duties such as: brings the family back to private area to review health, chief complaint for the day, take needed x-rays, review any balances on the account, and schedule recare/treatment appointments.

Job Duties

● Warmly greet family back to private area for initial part of visit: review health, confirm demo info, ask about chief complaints to address for day, inform family of planned procedures for the appointment (such as x-rays, cleaning, exam, touch up or place needed sealants and placement of fluoride) and lastly of any balance to be collected at the end of visit 

● Bring patient to assigned room, and begin all hygiene visits with the “toothbrushing station” about 5 min of time 

● Take any necessary x-rays, diagnostic, rotated and ready for review (show patient/parent anything suspicious on x-rays if appropriate) 

● If the dentist is ready for the exam, do HIPPA appropriate handoff communicating all aspects of what you have done and discussed so far in the appointment in front of parent/patient: updated health, chief complaint, how was TB station and OH, and if you did any of the following discuss and mention as well in the handoff. 

● Treatment such as sealants & SDF done same day 

● Facilitated “non-judgement” learning labs 

● Review the contributing factors worksheet at this time (and focus on oral hygiene if was issue at toothbrushing station) You may not know yet about cavities, but if a child has history, or you see suspicious areas, you may want to mention the following:

○ This is time to discuss and show flossing for parents 

○ This is time to show Airflosser 

○ This is time to show Sonicare

○ This is time to discuss HD Toothpaste, Clinpro, or MI Paste 

○ This is the time to mention if tongue is very obviously tied, or lip, or if airway is tight, how these things can contribute to dry mouth, mouth breathing, and less ability to keep teeth clean and therefore add to risk of cavities...this is according to your training and as appropriate and comfortable

● Review the airway document with the family and ask about sleep (snore, grind, wake up frequently, night terrors). 

● If airway is concern, if see crowding, flaring, crossbites or other jaw/dental alignment issues, mention myofunctional therapy and let family know dentist may want to mention it as an option for their child (optional video) 

● Promote an atmosphere of support and fun, facilitated learning, not lecturing or judging. 

● Maintain a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures. Do not use gloves on patient then on pen or computer. 

● Assume the responsibility associated with any expanded duties that may be delegated by the dentist/clinical lead. 

● During any off times when you do not have a patient, you are to first see if any other team members with patients need your assistance as patient care comes first, if not, you will be given a list of priorities in off time 

● Stock operatories and maintain clinical supply inventory. 

● Review daily schedule and treatments, in order to properly set-up appropriate trays and instruments. 

● Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends. (on-call phone) 

● Willingness to participate in community events such as health fairs, community outreach programs, etc. 

● Attend required meetings and participate in committees, as requested. 

● As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational goals, objectives and mission standards.
