THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY POSITION DESCRIPTIONTITLE: High School Resource Teacher DEPARTMENT: Student Support Services DATE: Updated: January 2024 FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: Academic Calendar SALARY: $47,659-$54272**depending upon previous relevant experience. Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application and resume.GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:The Resource teacher is a member of the multi-disciplinary professional team. The special education teacher provides direct, explicit, and remedial academic instruction, consultation to parents and teachers for students with an IEP. Also provides students with experiences that will give them opportunities to develop mature, responsible behaviors necessary for future success, and to ensure instruction is differentiated and provided in the least restrictive environment alongside non-disabled peers. The Special Education teacher works to ensure meaningful parent participation and develops Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans within a multi-disciplinary team approach. The Classical Academy reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSKnowledgeable in working with students who demonstrate a wide range of academic, social/emotional and behavior needsProvide research-based, data-driven, specialized instruction to address the goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP using a variety of individual and group activities.Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to help assess and identify students with disabilitiesAdminister nationally standardized achievement assessments to aid in initial or triennial review determination decisionsRegularly monitors student progress and determines and uses data to make decisions about educational programming. .Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.Establish and maintain positive classroom management.Develop and monitor appropriately rigorous IEP goals that are based on students' present levels of academic and functional performance and impact of disabilityMust be able to demonstrate competency in directing the day-to-day activities of assigned paraprofessionals.Provide consultation to regular education teachers, support staff and parents, and other agencies regarding programming for students with learning needsCollaborates with teachers, parents, and other support staff as needed to ensure IEP's are implemented with fidelity, accommodations are being used consistently, and students on IEPs are being supported appropriately.Serve a continuum of students in a variety of settings ranging from partial to full inclusionPlan, develop, maintain, and review Individualized Educational Programs.Establish and maintain confidential records of screenings, evaluations, and progress towards goals as required under the IDEA and ECEA rulesProvide written quarterly progress reports with robust data and narrative articulating progress toward IEP goals.Collaborates with college/career plan center, parents, and students to write meaningful post-secondary goals compliant with indicator 13. Prepare and submit reports for the Director of Student Support ServicesAttend conferences and workshops regarding learning disabilities and intervention techniquesParticipate in staff development activities as requiredDeliver interventions to all levels in the identified area(s) of need in the IEP with direct, explicit instructionUse technology in communication with students, peers, parents, and administrationAlways facilitate inclusion of all students and model disability etiquetteDesign motivational strategies for at-risk learners within a multi-disciplinary team approachDevelop and coordinate behavior management plans within a multi-disciplinary team approachPerform other duties as requested from the Director of Student Support Services MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assist other members of the Student Support Services multidisciplinary team as needed MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree required, and additional coursework required for Special Education Generalist licensureMaster’s degree in Special Education preferredValid Colorado Teaching license/certificate endorsed Special Education Generalist requiredWill consider TTE for strong candidates EXPERIENCE:Experience working in an educational setting preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education.Demonstrate the ability to work with students of all ages and disabling conditionsAlways maintain confidentiality of all records and information under FERPA, IDEA and ECEA requirementsTrain and oversee Student Support Service paraprofessionalInitiate contact with parents and serve as a liaisonFacilitate clear communication between students, parents, teachers, counselors, and building administrationDisplay positive collegial relationshipsAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writing SCOPE OF INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:StudentsTeachersAdministratorsSupport StaffParentsOther departmentsSupervisor Contacts often involve discussing information and issues that are sensitive in nature and require a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed primarily in the Resource classroom settingRequired to work normal business hours with additional hours as needed PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
