POSITION DETAILS

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering 58 associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a full-time Program Manager position, to oversee our CUNY 2x Tech program which is housed in our Computer Systems Technology (CST) department. This position will begin during the 2023-2024 academic year.

City Tech’s Computer Systems Technology department offers innovative, career-focused, hands-on curricula to educate students in emerging information technologies and their application to business, science, the arts and other human endeavors. It is the largest department at the College, offering an AAS in Computer Information Systems, a BTech in Computer Systems Technology and a BS in Data Science, with multiple areas of concentration. The CST department is part of the School of Technology and Design, which provides a unique environment for interdisciplinary research and learning.

CUNY 2x Tech is a New York City initiative, launched to double the number of tech bachelor’s degrees awarded by public colleges through a comprehensive investment in instruction, advisement, and the experiences needed to prepare students for 21st-century tech jobs. The goals of City Tech’s CUNY 2x Tech program include improving the career readiness of graduates, the number and percentage of students completing paid internships, and the number and percentage of graduates who secure high paying jobs in computer science related fields upon graduation. Our strategies include working with industry partners to update degree programs to meet current and emerging workforce needs, particularly in cybersecurity and data science; expansion of existing collaborations within the college and externally; integrating equity, career exploration and readiness throughout the curriculum, and supports such as tutoring and mentoring. The position will involve significant work with Computer Systems Technology department faculty, the college’s Professional Development Center and other student support areas, NYC-based industry partners and the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline.

The CUNY 2x Tech Program Manager will report to the Chairperson of the Computer Systems Technology Department. In addition to the CUNY title overview duties, the Program Manager will:

  • Perform project management, including supervising non-faculty personnel, providing oversight of the budget, and ensuring adherence to completion of needed program activities and objectives.
  • Provide oversight of the Program to assure achievement of City Tech’s CUNY 2x Tech goals, including strong industry collaborations, curricular updates and development, support of students’ career exploration and readiness for paid internships, and employment upon graduation.
  • Collaborate effectively with industry partners, staff, faculty and students to realize academic support for students including advising, tutoring, and mentoring.
  • Achieve mastery all the tools used at the college for advisement and registration.
  • Schedule and hold periodic meetings with industry partners, the program advisory board, advocates for students, project personnel, and academic partners to ensure the program’s relevance and effectiveness.
  • Develop communications with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners to gain feedback on the effectiveness of program activities, and provide recommendations for improvement, and implementation, as needed.
  • Collect and analyze data; create reports on program activities and outcomes.
  • Maintain databases on incoming and graduating students each semester.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in an academic environment, particularly in STEM fields, is highly desirable.
  • Previous professional experience in a tech field, preferably within or adjacent to NYC tech companies.
  • At least 3 years of experience with program or project management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • An understanding of the tech industry and its relationship to higher education.
  • Experience with data and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative written reports).
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for leading a team to launch a new initiative; building relationships with stakeholders in the public and private sectors; working directly with students; workforce development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with or ability to quickly learn appropriate modules in the CUNYfirst system.

  • Implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures
  • Assists Director with outcome assessment and strategic planning to further develop program offerings
  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
  • May manage professional and/or clerical staff
  • May act on behalf of Director in his/her absence
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
