The Children's Shelter is Hiring a Director of Parenting Programs Near San Antonio, TX

Description

The Children’s Shelter Director of Parenting Programs provides leadership for parenting education programs through Family Strengthening Programs (iParent and Compadre y Compadre Services). The Director of Parenting Programs provides oversight of the day-to-day operations and partnerships including budgeting, training, and guidance of the parenting programs’ staff. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in partnership with the VP of Programs to create the program strategic plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve agency goals and outcomes. 
  • Ensures that all activities carried out in the name of the agency are in accordance with agency policies and procedures and national standards.
  • Leads and manages the organization’s teams and managers who have the following responsibilities:

Family Strengthening:

  1. iParent SA

Provides direct oversight, leadership, guidance and management to the local iParent SA® umbrella of services, including iParent SA® contracts and grants funded by United Way and The Bexar County Family Drug Court.

  1. Compadre Y Compadre (CYC) Services

Provides direct oversight, training, leadership, guidance and management for the Compadre Y Compadre Program and Mentor Program.

  • Provides leadership and participates in the development and administration of the department budgets.
  • Leads the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.
  • Researches and generates new ways to expand programs through community partnerships, grants, fee-for-service programs and center-based programming.
  • Ensures the programs are positively represented at the local, state, and national level.
  • Supports the human capital development and “coaching” culture with The Children’s Shelter.
  • Supports the strengthening and management of the culture and practices that reflect the organization’s mission and core values and fosters high engagement in staff.
  • Attends and participates in Director meetings and committees.
  • Responsible for own personal safety, your co-workers, and others that might enter your work area.
  • Carry out and adhere to The Children’s Shelter policies and procedures of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Ensures a continued assessment and consideration of the strengths/needs of the children and families that we serve to promote the ideal service delivery.
  • Ensure the provision of quality services and contract compliance; reviewing service documentation forms for accuracy and eligibility of participants.
  • Ensures the data entry of participant information into the database is accurate and complete.
  • Ensures agency reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the programs meet and/or exceed all contractual obligations.
  • Seeks new partnerships within the community to serve parents.
  • Participates in the agency strategic planning committee and required element group.
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to meeting the needs of our customers (children, community members, co-workers, donors, managers, and volunteers), in a friendly, outgoing, and professional manner.
  • Responds to customers in a timely and thorough manner; does what is necessary to ensure customer satisfaction; prioritizes customer’s needs and follows up to evaluate customer’s satisfaction.
  • Supervises the CYC Program team of employees; providing appropriate training, weekly staff meetings and support to ensure success.
  • Communicates and cooperates with agency partners, staff, and clients in a respectful and effective manner at all times. 
  • Responsible for own personal safety, your co-workers, and others that might enter your work area. 
  • Represents the agency in the community and in professional organizations and groups.
  • Maintains direct employee timesheets in payroll system; approves timesheets in accordance with deadlines for bi-weekly payroll closing. 
  • Submits monthly program reports to the VP of Programs.
  • Meets with the VP of Programs on a weekly basis. 
  • Develops quarterly program presentations to share with PQI and community leaders. 
  • Oversees the production and publication of all CYC materials.
  • Completes assigned projects and seek support from the VP of Programs as needed.
  • Attends all mandatory staff meetings.
  • Coordinates purchases and maintains program supplies and equipment. 
  • Cares for the property of The Children’s Shelter, reporting necessary repairs/needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Attends mandatory trainings as defined in position’s training matrix.
  • Attends continuing education as necessary to expand knowledge and maintain certifications or licenses.
  • Uses outside professional collaboration and intra-agency teamwork appropriate to the agency.
  • Avoids all conflicts of interest, real or perceived.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional staff and their development.
  • Demonstrates commitment to task achievement and performance outcomes. 

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services required. 8 or more years’ experience in a related field may be substituted for degree requirement. 
  • Previous experience in similar role with a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous work with child/youth in TDFPS care is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to supervise a staff of varying educational and experiential backgrounds. 
  • Ability to develop, supervise and evaluate programs and senior staff.
  • Ability to provide leadership and effectively coordinate the various components of the departments.
  • Ability to advocate effectively at the community, state and national levels.
  • Skilled in organizing work in a responsible way in an environment with multiple challenges and priorities. 
  • Ability to seek feedback and supervision and to use it constructively.
  • Skilled in organizing work in an environment with multiple challenges and priorities with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, effective time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to individual needs of youth, parents, and families.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Position is assigned to the Woodlawn Building, but some work assignments are completed outside of an office setting, including The Children’s Shelter locations, school districts, and community agencies. Professional work attire may be required for certain assignments. Work hours will vary based on business needs. Weekend and evening work will be required to meet the clients’ needs. This is a grant-funded position.
