Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, and at 270 outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.

Job Summary:

The Data Coordinator assumes a pivotal role in our organization, responsible for conducting surveys, observations, focus groups, and interviews to comprehensively capture feedback on the experiences, behaviors, needs, and expectations of both Museum visitors and beneficiaries of our outreach programs. Beyond direct data collection, this individual acts as a liaison with staff members across diverse programs, ensuring the timely and meticulous collection and entry of data in alignment with established guidelines and requirements. This position will be part-time, with up to 29 hours per week. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct data collection activities in English and Spanish using variety of methodologies, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observations.
• Engage with Museum visitors, beneficiaries, and stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner to foster participation in surveys and data collection endeavors. 
• Capture and document observational data concerning visitor traffic, exhibit interactions, and overall engagement within the Museum.
• Facilitate interviews and focus groups with visitors and outreach program participants to gain insights into their motivations, interests, and feedback.
• Organize and maintain databases of collected data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
• Perform quality checks and validation procedures on collected data to identify and address discrepancies or errors.
• Collaborate with team members to develop data collection strategies and protocols for specific projects or initiatives.
• Ensure consistent and timely data collection and entry in alignment with established guidelines, collaborating with teammates working in different programs to accomplish this goal.
• Assist in translating survey instruments, interview guides, data collection tools, and related materials into Spanish.
• Concisely document observational findings, focus group discussions, and interview transcripts, ensuring data collected in Spanish is translated accurately into English.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of survey responses, observational data, focus group discussions, and interview transcripts.
• Adhere to established ethical guidelines and best practices in data collection and research.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Proficiency in both, English and Spanish (written & spoken) is required.
• Proficiency in using tablets, smartphones, and other digital devices for data collection.
• Proficiency in using data collection tools and software, such as surveys, databases, and data entry systems.

Preferred qualifications: (optional, you can delete if not needed)

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in survey activities, focus groups, and interviews in both languages.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection, record-keeping, and transcription.
• Ability to work independently and follow established protocols and procedures.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Education:

Experience:

• Experience working in an educational setting, such as a school, childcare program, library, or similar programs, is a plus.
• Previous experience in survey administration, data collection, focus group facilitation, and conducting interviews is a plus.
• Interest in museums, cultural institutions, and visitor experience research.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to move around the Museum frequently, sometimes walking or standing for extended periods of time.
• Able to travel using own transportation from the Museum to outreach event sites in the Greater Houston Area.
