Children’s Center of Wayne County (TCC) is home to specialized clinical, foster care, and support services.

Job Summary

The Manager- Public Grants is an integral member of the agency’s Philanthropy team and is responsible for developing a public grants strategy to secure funding from federal, state and local sources. The Manager will lead the research, evaluation, writing of public grants and associated reports to support TCC’s programs.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with public grants (federal, state and local) lifecycle management, including writing, prospect research and post-award compliance with success. Liaise with the grantor(s) and evaluate the performance of assigned programs and project(s) per funding steams.
  • Ability to monitor and meet annual philanthropy goals related to public grants income.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising; preferably children’s mental and/or behavioral health or early childhood development with preference to Raiser’s Edge expertise.
  • Ability to manage simple to complex projects and initiatives, including budgets, measurable goals and objectives and identifying the necessary details to achieve success. 
  • Ability to build strong relationships with individuals and cross-functional teams (including staff, clients, and political partners); leading, motivating and holding individuals accountable to specific and measurable outcomes as appropriate. 
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills related to windows navigation, Microsoft Office and general office equipment.
  • Must be able to provide clearance that there is no record and/or convictions as a perpetrator of child abuse and/or neglect in the State of Michigan Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry and other states of residency over the past 5 years.
  • If the position requires driving, you must be able to provide proof of having a current, valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, information, and meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's Degree – Preferred in Philanthropy, Development, Communications, English, or similar field or equivalent experience.

Essential Functions

  • Engage Director in cultivating key stakeholder and other prospects, to arrange and participate in meetings and onsite tours for key stakeholders and supporters (public officials, state and local representatives and staff and governmental change agents).
  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to lead the grants management lifecycle: prospect research in all public funding arenas) written application, award recognition, stewardship tracking and reporting, renewal and upgrade.
  • Collaborate with Philanthropy Team and TCC colleagues to engage in grant reporting and stewardship process.
  • Maintain current records in the Raiser’s Edge database and electronic files including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Provide funding outcomes and stewardship reporting to funding partners in collaboration with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy and Chief Philanthropy Officer. Comply with all grant reporting as required by funder and key stakeholders.
  • Attend the required Agency and regulatory trainings and additional trainings based upon your position.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 Lbs.
  • Ability to prepare and inspect documents in hard copy or electronic format. Ability to tolerate exposure to computer screen and operate computer/keyboard and other office equipment on a frequent and/or continuous basis.
  • Ability to receive and exchange information and accurately and effectively communicate and converse with others.
  • Ability to convey detailed instructions or ideas accurately.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
