The OBH Community-based Violence Prevention Program is an expansion of work housed in the BHMC Trauma Division focused on supporting patients presenting with a non-fatal assault injury, along with their loved ones and medical staff who work closely with this population. At the core of this program is the Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP), a national model defined by both immediate crisis intervention for patients and their loved ones and ongoing case management, which includes connection to community services, continual follow-up, and social support.
The OBH Violence Prevention Program Director will oversee the implementation and evaluation activities of HVIP across the system. Additional responsibilities include refining HVIP protocols in partnership with community partners and medical staff, maintaining relationships with partnering organizations and stakeholders, and tracking program data. In collaboration with medical staff, the program manager will work closely with Brooklyn-based Cure Violence (NYC Crisis Management) and local community and faith-based organizations to deliver trauma informed care for patients and community members.
