Interfaith Medical Center is Hiring a Director (OBH) - Community-Based Violence Prevention Program Near Brooklyn, NY

Overview:

The OBH Community-based Violence Prevention Program is an expansion of work housed in the BHMC Trauma Division focused on supporting patients presenting with a non-fatal assault injury, along with their loved ones and medical staff who work closely with this population. At the core of this program is the Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP), a national model defined by both immediate crisis intervention for patients and their loved ones and ongoing case management, which includes connection to community services, continual follow-up, and social support.

The OBH Violence Prevention Program Director will oversee the implementation and evaluation activities of HVIP across the system. Additional responsibilities include refining HVIP protocols in partnership with community partners and medical staff, maintaining relationships with partnering organizations and stakeholders, and tracking program data. In collaboration with medical staff, the program manager will work closely with Brooklyn-based Cure Violence (NYC Crisis Management) and local community and faith-based organizations to deliver trauma informed care for patients and community members.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead implementation of HVIP across One Brooklyn Health System, including the development of intake protocols and coordination of operations with medical staff, Violence Interrupter Services, and case managers.
  • Assist with the development of a community organization and social services referral directory.
  • Collaborate with leaders across hospital departments to define and develop metric goals.
  • Determine objectives, action items, and deliverables, ensuring program materials align with system mission and values, including advancing health equity and promoting community engagement.
  • Ensure implementation and evaluation timelines are defined and met.
  • Support the preparation of periodic reports for hospital leadership, department leaders and grant funders, as needed.
  • Develop evaluation plans and materials, including surveys and questionnaires, to track program progress and outcomes.
  • Identify and engage with stakeholders including community and faith-based organizations, hospital leadership, and city and state officials.
  • Prepare, distribute, and present program status reports to hospital and community leaders.
  • Prepare, distribute, and present information about the prevalence of community violence, assault-related hospitalizations, and the program design and impact to a range of audiences.
  • Conduct research to understand best practices in community violence prevention and intervention strategies.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum two years of college education required. Associate's degree or higher preferred

OR equivalent combination of post-high school education and two (2) years work experience.

  • Preference given to candidates possessing experience with criminal and juvenile justice systems, victim issues, child development, delinquency, community resources and restorative justice principles, or other fields if the applicant specifically addresses how their skills and experience fit this position.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Displays high standards of ethical conduct.
  • Ability to take direction from multiple persons and roles.
  • Ability to establish goals, set priorities, oversee the short and long term deliverable of department objectives, ensure optimum performance of staff, may operate in a project manager role as needed, coach others, ensure quality of results and output.
  • Understanding of the operation of the assigned department.
  • Requisite expertise and documented educational and administrative experience acceptable to the Review Committee.
  • Ability to fully utilize OBH’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
  • Fluent in MS Office, including MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
