The Brookdale Hospital Medical Center is Hiring a Clerk Messenger Near Brooklyn, NY

Overview

The Messenger’s responsibilities include gathering parcels and then transporting these to specified people or locations. Messengers possess excellent organizational and communication skills. They have an eye for detail and a dedication to accuracy. Organizing packages and documents by order of stop to prevent confusion and delay in planned timing for routes. Obtaining signatures, appropriate documentation for items picked up or delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Clarify schedule and anticipated deliveries before each shift begins.
  • Answering recipient’s questions about the delivery process.
  • Ensuring that both you and the recipient sign all relevant documentation upon delivery.
  • Checking to ensure that you have completed all work allocated for the day.
  • Advising the manager of deliveries that could not be fulfilled.
  • Keeping accurate logs or records for verifications of ordered deliveries.
  • Completing required paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail within a timely manner.
  • Messenger may transport the following (not an all-inclusive list) blood products, specimens, medical equipment in a safe and timely manner.
  • Reports changes in patient’s condition to the RN and/or physician (physical, emotional and behavioral changes).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma, or GED.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of hospital experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic proficiency with Office PC's, Desktops, and Laptop software in addition to familiarity with Microsoft Office softwares to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Good interpersonal skills a must.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use verbal and nonverbal calming techniques to prevent crisis.

Hours Required:

Hours for the position will be as follows:

  • 8am to 4pm, with a required alternative weekends worked on Saturdays, and Sundays from 4pm to 12am, or 8am to 4pm.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the work day.
  • May include some repetitive motions.
