The Broadbent Company is Hiring an Assistant Controller Near Indianapolis, IN

The Assistant Controller supports the department in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This role involves managing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, preparing financial reports, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting processes. The Assistant Controller collaborates with various departments to analyze financial data and provide insights for strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

Accounting Operations: Oversee day-to-day accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll processing.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies. Stay updated on changes in accounting principles and implement necessary adjustments.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in developing budgets and forecasts based on financial trends and business goals. Monitor variances and provide analysis to support financial decision-making.

Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data and trends to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and process improvement. Present findings to management and provide recommendations.

Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information.

Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations as needed.

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure accuracy and efficiency in their work.

Systems Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance the effectiveness of financial systems and software.

Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the director or senior management.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or relevant certification preferred.

- 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

- Background in commercial / retail real estate strongly preferred.

- Experience with tax return preparation and support.

- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, etc.).

- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide meaningful insights.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.

- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
