Basic Qualifications

  • Strong oral/written communication skills; effective proofreading skills.
  • Experience with resource development (both in written and presentation form), and research implementation.
  • Ability to work with data sets of varying sizes in order to glean insights.
  • Familiar with best practices in data management and survey methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Teams) and Zoom (and other virtual meeting software)
  • Proficiency and demonstrated use of data management software (such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate timely, clearly, and efficiently with multiple stakeholders for stated results.
  • Commitment to organization and documentation of materials required to complete work.
  • Adaptable and team-oriented, working in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities to develop processes.
  • Skill in time management plus ability to work independently and self-assign tasks appropriate for progression of projects with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in research-driven education and resources relevant to architectural practice
  • Experience in architectural practice and construction industry.
  • Familiarity with business management practices or educational equivalent is strongly
  • Experience managing volunteers within an association.
  • Experience with technologies like Higher Logic, OpenWater, and CRM management software.
  • Proficiency with advanced properties of virtual meeting technology (e.g., Zoom)
  • Understanding research methodologies and trends affecting the design profession.
  • Familiarity with web-based research and information dissemination applications, content management systems, and association management systems.
  • Knowledge of key architecture industry stakeholders such as NAAB, NCARB, IIDA, ACEC.

Bachelor's degree in the following fields: business, public policy, economics, liberal arts preferred; architecture (B. Arch, M.Arch) a plus with 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Location: 100% Remote from the AIA Approved States : AR, DE, FL, GA*, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, ME, MI, MN, MT, NH, NM, NY, NC, OK, PA, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WY

This position will periodically be required to be on-site at the AIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Travel Requirements: 10% annually, occasionally on weekends

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Professional Practice Programs on the Research & Practice team, the Sr. Manager is primarily responsible for providing project management support for firm prosperity at architecture firms. Primarily, this role helps expand access to architecture practice tools and resources, advance firm benchmarking, and foster productive partnerships.

In order to facilitate the advancement of the profession, as well as growth of AIA's existing products and services, the Sr. Manager is responsible for managing the development of cross-organizational resources and the coordinating educational content for real time and on-demand AIA settings. The Sr. Manager connects firm leaders to AIA data on firm prosperity and serves as the primary point of contact for the volunteer, consultant, and others that would contribute to the creation of or access to these firm resources.This role will work closely with volunteers to leverage industry expertise for the development of resources.

Job Duties

Data use and implementation:

    • Collaborate with members within the Research & Practice team engaged in economic, market research, and other industry studies in order to expand business services to architecture firms and professionals.
    • Support AIA's revenue-generating products that advance firm business success (e.g., AIA/Deltek ABI, AIA Compensation & Benefits studies, AIA Business of Architecture studies) in order to grow impact and revenue.
    • Collect, analyze, and synthesize data about member needs and usage of professional practice resources into usable information to inform development of current and future products.
    • Work with marketing and communications team and other internal teams to draw awareness to new and existing professional practice resources.
    • Produce white papers, written content, and presentations in support of this work.
    • Contribute to and represent the AIA at key meetings and industry-relevant conferences annually, as needed (such as the AIA Conference on Architecture, AIA component meetings, industry alliance annual meetings (e.g., Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA))
    • Other duties as assigned.

Design/implementation of Business Acumen, Firm Prosperity, and Workplace Excellence Benchmarking programming, collateral, and resources across the AIA:

    • Collaborate with leaders in the Research & Practice team and member stakeholders/groups to establish and maintain benchmarking criteria for firm and workplace excellence and advance existing AIA resources (e.g., AIA Framework for Design Excellence, Guides to Equitable Practice, AIA Business of Architecture firm survey), including revenue-generating tools.
    • Execute projects to support and enhance benchmarking content related to architectural workplace excellence in collaboration with other departments of the AIA. Projects could include white papers, interactive tools, webinars, videos, podcasts, articles, roundtables, as well as face-to-face sessions.
    • Develop and coordinate resources for professional practice through content curation and repackaging, as well as new content development.
    • Develop and maintain external partnerships for content sharing.
    • Recruit and coordinate subject matter experts, including volunteer members, for new content development.
    • Manage product content, associated budget, and expenses.
    • Monitor projects for effectiveness and recommend improvements based on research derived from environmental factors, metrics, usage reports and user feedback.
    • Ensure products and communications follow AIA Brand Guidelines and policies.
    • In support of understanding professional practice challenges, coordinate responses to member requests for information by either responding to the question or directing the member to the appropriate staff person while providing superior customer service.
    • Support AIA member groups toward goals of successful firm practices.
    • Support AIA member group activities that align with practice management.
