The Ad Council is Hiring a Director, Media Engagement Near Washington, DC

Who we are:

The Ad Council convenes creative storytellers to educate, unite and uplift audiences by opening hearts, inspiring action and accelerating change around the most pressing issues in America. Since the non-profit's founding, the organization and its partners in advertising, media, marketing and tech have been behind some of the country's most iconic social impact campaigns - Smokey Bear, A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Love Has No Labels, Tear the Paper Ceiling and many more. With a current focus on mental health, gun safety, the opioid epidemic, skill-based hiring and other critical issues, the Ad Council's national campaigns encompass advertising and media content, ground game and community efforts, trusted messenger and influencer engagement, and employer programs, among other innovative strategies to move the needle on the most important issues of the day.

Job Summary

The Ad Council's Media Team is looking for a Director, Media Engagement who will be an integral part of the Media Team's Media Strategy & Engagement Center of Excellence. This role will focus on developing new media partnerships as well as cultivating and expanding upon existing relationships to further the reach of Ad Council campaigns.

A key focus within Team Media's Media Strategy and Engagement Center of Excellence is the engagement of diverse-owned media companies to ensure inclusive representation in our media activations. This new role will be focused on leading our efforts to identify, partner and grow critical media partnerships with diverse-owned publishers and media platforms ensuring our campaigns are represented and distributed among diverse-owned media outlets. Through these partnerships, we will be able to lean into their research, analytics, creative, next-gen technologies, and distribution to drive effective engagement and impact across the many diverse audiences as relevant to specific campaign objectives. This role will be positioned to inform and collaborate across the media team and the Ad Council organization on media strategy, and that Ad Council's creative messaging and execution es a DEI lens be applied to the entirety of our media roster.

The Ad Council is seeking applicants who are passionate about building new relationships with corporate partners and media companies, thinking outside the box to develop creative partnership executions, and cultivating existing partnerships with members of the Ad Council's Board of Directors and other key partners.

The compensation for this position is within the range of $105,000 - $120,000 annually (based on experience level). The compensation package also includes an annual incentive, comprehensive benefit offerings, and generous paid time off.

What you'll do:

  • Manage day to day relationships on assigned list of media accounts, with a focus on diverse owned media outlets.
  • Concept, execute and manage large-scale custom media partnerships.
  • Serve as the main resource for diverse-owned media engagement within the Ad Council and with external partners.
  • Broaden and deepen our media partnerships across the diverse-owned media landscape.
  • Work with Media Strategy team to conduct Annual and Quarterly media outreach that ladders back up to overall Ad Council campaign KPI goals.
  • Participate in multicultural events and conferences to further enhance expertise, network, and act as Ad Council champion and ambassador to showcase our efforts and work with diverse-owned media partners.
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally to maximize opportunities for robust partnerships and engagement on behalf of Ad Council campaigns.
  • Work with ground game team to ensure we are applying a holistic effort to engage diverse-owned media partners effectively.
  • Work with the digital media team to scale and grow our inclusive media programmatic offering.
  • Work with the media strategy team to ensure we are identifying collaboration opportunities with media agencies that have specific strategic focus on diverse-owned media partners.
  • Collaborate with the campaign development team across campaigns to engage diverse-owned media partners and bring forth creative insights.
  • Provide expertise and insights to apply a DEI lens to all Ad Council Campaigns and initiatives.
  • Work closely with Fin Dev to identify new ways to engage and promote diverse representation on Board and Leadership Committee.
  • Maintain CRM database and quarterly media plans.

What you bring:

  • 6 years professional sales, marketing, or agency experience.
  • A passion for, and a knowledge of media and advertising industries.
  • Experience working with diverse owned media partners or in a multicultural marketing role.
  • Stellar communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain long term client relationships and see projects from start to finish.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and CRM software (Salesforce, Smartsheet).
  • Keen strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and effectively cross-functionally.
  • Ability to expertly prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A positive, empathetic mindset and a fearless openness to finding opportunities where others may not.
  • The willingness to embrace the opportunities of an ever-changing media landscape.
