Surplus Program Manager

Vehicle & Asset Management (VAM)

$59,700 - $74,604/ Year

Full-Time, In-Office

We’re Hiring!

The Department of General Services for the State of Tennessee is looking for just the right person to fill the role of Surplus Program Manager and join our team.

The Surplus Program Manager is a valued member of the Vehicle & Asset Management (VAM) division. In this role, you will be responsible for empowering the State’s surplus asset management team to drive positive change within the Department of General Services under the guidance of the Deputy Director of VAM. Your logistics and asset movement expertise will lead to more efficient asset management, cost savings, increased revenue, and enhanced transparency.

When you join the Department of General Services, you will enjoy a competitive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance; tuition assistance; 401K, and retirement plans; employee discounts for personal purchases; free downtown parking; better-than-average sick and annual leave (PTO); plus, State holidays. The monthly starting salary is $4,975 - $6,217 (determined by experience). This position will work in the office, which is located at 6500 Centennial Blvd, Nashville, TN 37243.

What is the Department of General Services, and what we do?

The Department of General Services makes Tennessee State Government work! Literally.

State troopers, and social workers, are a few State employees who couldn’t do their jobs without the vehicles we purchase and maintain. The Department of Transportation relies on us to purchase salt to treat icy roads. When you visit the

State Capitol or other State buildings across Tennessee, our Department has had a hand in it. We are responsible for operating, managing, and maintaining real estate assets owned by the State. Even the governor relies on our team to document his appearances and various State events through photography.

Selected as one of the Tennessean’s Top Workplaces for the last four years, the Department of General Services’ mission is to serve as a trusted partner to deliver mission-focused general services to support Tennessee State government. Our vision is to create a culture of excellence that produces consistent strategic and innovative support solutions for our State. We do this with a commitment to four core values: thorough, engaged, accountable, and motivated.

Commissioner Christi Branscom leads this incredible team of hard-working professionals. Check out the link at the end of this post to hear what she has to say about working for the Department of General Services.

Are you the person we’re looking for?

You are a leader

Your strong leadership skills will inspire and empower the surplus asset management team to perform at their best. As a strong leader, you will demonstrate empathy and patience in dealing with those who might not share their vision. You will motivate rather than criticize because you understand the effect you have on the people around you.

You have logistics expertise

You deeply understand logistics and asset movement and will streamline surplus asset management processes. Your expertise will lead to more efficient inventory control and help identify areas for process improvement driving greater efficiency and effectiveness.

You possess professionalism and tact

You will set the tone for interactions with team members, state agencies, and external partners. This will create an atmosphere of respect and cooperation essential for successful surplus asset management.

You’re a great communicator and collaborator

You can effectively communicate with a high degree of competence face-to-face, via telephone, and in writing with all levels of the organization and a broad spectrum of outside agencies, professionals, and vendors. In this role, you will work closely with clients to determine precise project requirements, deliverables, deadlines, budgets, and more.

If this describes you, we invite you to apply today!
