KGKC is seeking an experienced, hands-on News Director with strong leadership skills and a bold style to lead Kansas City’s first Spanish-language newscast! The position is based in Kansas City, Missouri.

Responsibilities:

• Manages & directs KGKC Telemundo Kansas City's local news operation
• Understands the station’s tenets of operation and news philosophy
• Works closely with station management to establish news priorities and direction
• ·Collaborates with other department heads to develop marketing plans and audience goals
• Responsible for initiating and overseeing growing content delivery
• Works closely with Editors, Reporters, and Anchors to produce, write, edit, and deliver a complete local newscast
• Ensures accuracy, integrity, and balance of news content
• Ensures quality control, brand compliance, and provides feedback to all news staff
• Leads daily editorial meetings and is a key communicator in the newsroom
• Selects, assigns, writes, and organizes news stories
• Responsible for the overall coverage of assigned stories throughout the day
• Adjusts to last minute changes and is aggressive in breaking news coverage
• Delivers under heavy deadline pressure without compromising credibility
• Integrates digital and social media strategies into newscasts, connecting with viewers though social media, polls, opinions, etc.
• Writes promotional teasers, headlines, and topicals
• Coordinates community and social story development
• Works with Reporters and Multimedia Journalists to improve story and presentation
• Brings creativity into every aspect of the newscast by maximizing station’s available resources, technology, and equipment
• Recruits and hires for news department personnel

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism degree or related field
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in newsroom management
• Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish and must be able to speak, read and understand English
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
• Excellent news judgment, creative ideas and writing skills a must
• Experience in newsgathering, writing, and producing
• Experience with desktop editing systems and/or production
• Ability to pitch stories and make contacts with the local community
• Must be willing to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends) and report to work in emergencies depending on news coverage when necessary
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must have a valid driver's license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
