Description
Summary
Design mechanical components for custom equipment for a wide variety of projects either independently or with group based on request by client and reviews with internal stakeholders in the project. Ensures all assigned sections of projects meet the proposed budget, schedule, and technical objectives.
Essential Functions
1. Prepares design layouts or schematics to fulfill defined engineering objectives.
2. Recommends and selects components necessary to fulfill the design, including designing original components if not available commercially.
3. Participates in brainstorming sessions.
4. Reviews drawing packages to eliminate errors.
5. Participates in coordination of the fabrication of the machine in the shop.
6. Participates in debugging and testing of the end product.
7. Performs routine design calculations.
8. Applies accepted design and manufacturing fundamentals to meet design objectives.
9. Participates in client reviews as appropriate.
10. Stays current concerning technological developments, design practices, and manufacturing processes.
11. Utilizes mechanical design standard operating procedures in the preparation of print packages.
12. May direct and train individuals from the same and other classifications.
13. Effectively interacts with internal and external team members across all departments.
14. Must be willing to participate in specialized training as assigned by supervisory personnel.
15. Understands and complies with requirements of the QMS, AS9100, and/or ISO 9000.
16. Travels on an as required basis.
17. Additional work hours as required.
18. Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:
1. Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Design or related field.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in design.
3. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
4. Proficiency in the development of detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, according to engineering descriptions, sketches, and design proposals.
5. Competency in technical mathematics.
6. Familiarity with machining and manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and mechanical functions.
7. Skill using Windows-based personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office programs.
8. Proficient in CAD-based software.
9. Proven problem-solving ability.
Preferred:
1. Proficient in SolidWorks.
2. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Design or related field.
