Description

Scope of Position

The Director of Security manages the security operations daily. Areas of responsibilities include protection of property assets, associates, guests and property, accident and fire prevention and response. Ensures that all areas of the property are safe and secure. Maintains logs, certifications and documents required by law and Standard Operation Procedures. Strives to continually improve guest and associate satisfaction while maximizing the financial performance of the department.

Position Requirements

  • Professional demeanor appropriate for a luxury environment.
  • Minimum (5) years of progressive experience in safety/security/loss prevention and in a luxury resort.
  • First and CPR certifications is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all loss prevention operations to include but not limited to; patrol process, emergency response, investigations (initial & follow up) for all guest and Internal Guest related incidents and Security operating systems.
  • Development and implementation of emergency procedures.
  • Conducts investigation of all losses of property assets.
  • Positions security staff to effectively monitor and protect property assets.
  • Maintain continual surveillance of resort areas, bordering property, and CCTV systems including making recommendations of improvements as required.
  • Handle complaints, diffuse escalating situations, and resolve grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiate with others.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for minimizing physical hazards and unsafe work practices.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings.
  • Attends pre- and post-convention and weekly forecast meetings to understand group needs and gather critical information to communicate to Security officers.
  • Communicates and ensures associate understanding of safety procedures.
  • Incorporates guest safety and satisfaction as a component of departmental meetings with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Oversee Be Safe program including Safety Committee team.
  • Assists in minimizing cost of accident claims.
  • Ensures all internal and external guest incidents/accidents are reported and documented properly.
  • Conduct routine training for the loss prevention department and other property departments on topics related to safety and security including first aid program.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state and local law and safety regulations.
  • Follow up on all unusual activities in and around the property that would impair the well-being of guests and Internal Guests.
  • Implement action plans to monitor and control risk.
  • Emphasize teamwork and close working relationships with other departments.
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hire process for new positions.
  • Train all new hires on loss prevention policies and procedures and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
  • Provides guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Conducts performance appraisals.
  • Complete disciplinary procedures and documentations according to hotel guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with local law enforcement authorities.
  • Informs and/or updates the executives, peers and subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by management

Education

  • High school diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in Security/Loss Prevention or related professional area.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
  • Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 100 pounds.
  • Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
