Position Summary
The Data Privacy & Compliance Manager at Taxwell (Drake Software and TaxAct) is responsible for ensuring our organization's adherence to a wide range of regulatory and compliance requirements. The Compliance Manager will actively collaborate with cross-functional teams, set compliance standards, support the compliance team on various work streams, and implement policies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the compliance team, providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and senior management, advising on updates to program requirements and expectations including compliance matters that may require attention or action.
  • Stay apprised of emerging trends, latest changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices with respect to the tax industry, compliance, and privacy issues, and implement necessary adjustments to our processes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Collaborate with other departments to assess and address compliance risks and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct internal audits and reviews to identify and resolve potential compliance issues.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree, JD or relevant certifications preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in risk and privacy compliance, with a minimum of 2 years of managerial experience, including:
    • Previous experience managing and responding to data subject access requests, preferably in the business to consumer space
    • Strong data privacy management experience and understanding of data privacy laws and regulations, experience with CCPA/CPRA, GLBA and IRS regulations is a plus
    • Previous experience reviewing Data Privacy Addendums (DPAs), data mapping, data flow diagraming, and conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, laws, and industry standards. Prior experience in the tax industry, financial services or other regulated industry preferred.
  • Experience with OneTrust or similar privacy management platforms and ability to assess risk management tools, techniques, and procedures to enhance risk/compliance management throughout the organization.
  • Experience with SOC 2 and other internal and external audit processes.
  • Knowledge of vendor management and coordination.
Preferred:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret information as it pertains to compliance-related functions and regulations.
  • Previous experience with drafting and management of compliance-related policies, procedures and conducting related training.
  • Ability to review contracts and identify potential compliance risks and issues; experience reviewing data protection agreements/addenda.
  • Applying knowledge in various compliance frameworks, including data privacy and protection (CCPA/CPRA, GLBA), NIST SP 800-53 and PCI DSS, and business continuity programs. Knowledge of payment application approval standards (e.g., SLC, SSF) is a plus.
  • Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies and external audits.
  • Coordinate, supervise and support the compliance team on various day-to-day work streams including vendor risk reviews, data subject requests, and privacy impact assessments.
  • Train and educate employees on compliance, data privacy, applicable regulations, and best practices.
  • Act as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Drive a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization.
