JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Primary purpose:

Responsible for the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliation and audit support schedules for Fixed Assets and associated corporate accounts. Assists with month-end close processes related to internal and external financial reporting and financial analysis. The Accountant-Senior is a key member of the Corporate Accounting team.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting processes related to financial reporting.
  • Follow and ensure compliance with corporate accounting close schedule and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare journal entries. 
  • Reconcile fixed assets and associated GL accounts.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Fixed Asset accounting modules and subledgers
  • Maintain working knowledge of FERC to GAAP accounting differences
  • Provide information for internal and external audits.
  • Understand and consistently execute internal controls over financial reporting
  • Assist and participate in internal control testing.
  • Identify and assist with the implementation of process improvements.
  • Regularly use Excel spreadsheets, database and word processing software, and periodically learn new software programs.
  • Monitor and analyze reports, research financial variances from budget and prior year and provide explanations for such variances.
  • Interface with all levels of management to support financial responsibilities.
  • Complete ad hoc projects as assigned.
  • Develop commercial and technical understanding of Tallgrass physical assets, products and services.
  • Work with internal departments to accomplish individual, departmental and company goals.
  • Offer assistance and act as a resource/mentor to the Corporate Accountants when needed.
  • Interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or a related discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 5 year of previous accounting experience.
  • Understanding the accounting and reporting of transactions involving natural gas processing, transportation and storage.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of GAAP.
  • General understanding and demonstrated ability with computerized accounting systems, operations analysis.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be very detailed oriented, self-motivated, a team player and able to work on/handle multiple projects at the same time.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Prior experience with financial reporting and preparation of financial statements.
  • Prior use and experience with Oracle Financial Cloud or other cloud based ERP preferred.

Knowledge of FERC Regulations
