Description Of JobThe Accounting work unit within Financial Services exists to maintain a controlled environment to properly record financial information for revenue collected as well as provide budgetary control and support for the department’s expenditures. The work unit handles all accounting specific functions for the department, which includes accounts payable, revenue collection, payroll for over 1,600 employees, general accounting transactions, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
We're hiring a detail oriented individual to be our Gaming Accountant I in Financial Services! You will be performing accounting work as it relates to the Gaming Division. While adhering to State Rules, Fiscal Rules and regulations, use your expertise to perform accounts payable, manage and reconcile shift differentials, overtime and compensation time, along with reviewing and reconciling journal entries. Primary DutiesAccounts Payable -
  • Acts as the main contact for all the vendors and Gaming employees for any payments, discrepancies and reimbursements.
  • Prepares most of the Division’s vendor invoices for payment and intergovernmental
  • transfers.
  • Ensures that all invoices have been approved and received.
  • Codes and enters all the appropriate data into CORE for warrants to be issued for payment of Division’s expenditures.
  • Assists Division in obtaining and preparing required documentation to procure goods.
Procurement Card Liaison/Allocator -
  • Audits and authorizes new procurement card cardholder account forms, and any changes or deletions to them.
  • Audits monthly CORE reports for upload errors and coordinates with other system administrators and programmers to resolve any errors.
  • Trains new Division staff on Department procurement program.
Position Details:
  • This position is not allowed to take personal leave from approximately July to August every year due to the Fiscal Year requirements of this position.
  • This position will travel to Central City and Cripple Creek Gaming offices approximately once a year, in order to perform inventory and reconciliations.

Minimum QualificationsMust meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the qualifications:
Option 14 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, accounts payable, and/or general ledgers.
Option 2Associates degree from an accredited institution in Accounting and/or Finance.
AND2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, accounts payable, and/or general ledgers.
Option 3Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting and/or Finance.
Substitutions
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution which included 27 semester hours of accounting or auditing coursework will substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will substitute for the degree requirement.

Special Qualifications
  • Applicants may be ineligible to apply for this position and subsequently disqualified if they do not have a Colorado address and a Colorado State issued Driver's License at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • State experience using CORE or infoAdvantage
  • Government and/or Gaming accounting experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards (GASB) and their application
  • Experience with data entry, journal and accrual entries
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Proficiency in Adobe
  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks with tight deadlines, and accept supervision
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication with team and stakeholders
