Maintenance Assistant

Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Assistants are responsible for communicating effectively with their customers with regard to, and completing on time, assigned work requests for: conference room set-ups, audio-visual set-ups, furniture reconfigurations, office moves, equipment moves, furniture requests, delivering and installing new name plates, hanging pictures, painting, changing out ceiling tiles, minor carpet repairs, transporting recycling and other similar tasks, as required, in support of our overall goal of maintaining a neat, clean, safe, healthy, productive, sustainable and uninterrupted workplace at the lowest cost possible, and to communicate this effectively to our client.

Job Description

The Maintenance Assistant reports directly to the Senior Building Engineer and will also takes directions from the Lead Facilities Technician. Will work closely with the Assistant Facilities Manager, Facilities Manager, Workplace Support Services Representative in carrying out his or her assigned responsibilities.

The Facilities Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Senior Building Engineer and will also takes directions from the Lead Facilities Technician. Will work closely with the Assistant Facilities Manager, Facilities Manager and Workplace Support Services Representatives in carrying out his or her assigned responsibilities.

Facilities Technicians are evaluated quarterly and annually with emphasis on the following areas: 1) attendance, 2) cleanliness, 3) on-time completion of work orders, 4) percentage of hours accounted for, 5) evaluation by customers, 6) physical inspection of assigned areas (including storerooms), 7) total number of work requests generated, 8) safety record, 9) evaluation by fellow employees, 10) total hours of classes completed.

Hours of Position

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; lunch from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, unless otherwise arranged.

Duties

  • Be familiar with Cushman & Wakefield policies and procedures and Client policies and procedures as they relate to your position and job description.

  • Be familiar with the layout of the facilities, location of storage rooms, shops, major conference rooms and labs/server rooms.

  • Wear the assigned uniform correctly at all times while on duty. Dress in a neat and professional manner whenever you are on the property, even off-duty.

  • Keep a neat and tidy work area.

  • Check work order system a minimum of three times daily for assigned work requests.

  • Know your assigned procedures for various emergency situations and respond accordingly should they occur.

  • Address work requests as assigned on a timely basis, completing requests within the assigned SLA (service level agreement).

  • Check assigned floors daily, including restrooms, break rooms, conference rooms, hallways, corridors and storerooms, inspecting facilities for general cleanliness and neatness, stains on carpet, marks on walls and doors needing paint touch-up, damaged or marked base vinyl, damaged or stained ceiling tiles, bent or broken window blinds, etc. 

  • Become cross trained in other areas of facilities support to provide coverage when needed.

  • Respond in a professional and courteous manner at all times in carrying out your assigned duties.

  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings, and complete monthly safety trainings. Observe safety procedures. Plan and carry out work in a manner that ensures an accident-free safety record.

  • Attend a minimum of 16 hours annually of formal classes related to your position to improve your knowledge and skill level.

  • Maintain good attendance, on time, with minimal absences.

  • Provide assistance with special projects as needed.

  • May be only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work and/or stand-by on-call duties.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets..
