Talentnow Solutions is Hiring a Chef and Food Service Director Near New York, NY

About Broadway Community

Broadway Community serves hundreds of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and hunger through a broad range of programs including a soup kitchen, a food pantry, a seven-night-a-week shelter, on-site medical services, a computer lab, employment assistance, benefits enrollment, a life skills program, and more. Our guests receive more than meals, shelter, and services: Broadway Community strives to create an environment of support approachability, friendliness, dignity, and welcome for all.

About the Chef and Food Service Director Role

With significant latitude for independent decision making, the Chef and Food Service Director will oversee all food service programs at Broadway Community (e.g. soup kitchen and food pantry) in addition to serving as a key member of the senior management team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working with a talented team of staff and volunteers, the Chef will ensure that all food programs operate within budgeted guidelines and to the highest safety and quality standards.

Duties

  • Preparing menus for our Soup Kitchen, Shelter, and Community Table programs (and other programs as may be developed over time) and manage all related planning (including ordering supplies, coordinating prep schedules, and overseeing meal preparation);
  • Preparing and serving over 50,000 high-quality meals a year through our soup kitchen;
  • Overseeing the ordering, storage, and distribution of food at our food pantry;
  • Serving our guests with unconditional dignity and hospitality.
  • Maintaining food cost controls through careful purchasing, record keeping, and inventory;
  • Adhering to all Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) guidelines and regulations in nutrition standards and food handling.
  • Coordinating with local CSA and LPL programs to get fresh produce to our neighbors in need.
  • Developing additional food service programming in relationship to our mission as the need arises;
  • Provide opportunities for Food Service education, including vocational training and domestic food preparation and nutrition training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
