The Assistant Nurse Manager is accountable for the administrative management, supervision, and evaluation of nursing care for a specified nursing unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager position is generally 0.5 administrative and 0.5 unit/clinical, based on the needs of the organization. This position requires flexibility in schedules and assignments. The Assistant Nurse Manager may have to stay past duty hours or come in on off tours or indefinite work on non-administrative tours as established by the Nurse Manager and/or ACNS to ensure a fully operational unit. The Registered Nurse in Hospital in Home provides care services to patients in their homes. They assume accountability and responsibility for their nursing practice and decisions affecting patient care. Their goals of service include the initiation of care within the Veterans residence, decreased hospital LOS, decreased utilization of emergent services, improved patient satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility.
The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the provision of leadership in evaluating and improving patient care through collaborative strategies with others. They are responsible for advising the Nurse Manager of issues in the area of responsibility and potential resolution of issues. The Assistant Nurse Manager functions as an effective change agent, utilizing effective communication skills to implement improvements in patient care. At the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager initiates interdisciplinary projects in HIH, HT, and HBPC to improve performance and evaluates the effect on patient care and workload utilizing professional standards of care and practice. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager maintains 24/7 accountability for professional nursing practice in assigned areas. The Assistant Nurse Manager possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative and interdisciplinary practice setting.
