What we do:The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for defined, high priority ER&D projects such as Tech Demo, Prototype, etc. to ensure progress and technical quality in support of the Chief Engineer. To accomplish this, the position works closely with the Chief Engineer, Subject Matter Experts (e.g., Tech Fellows), Engineering Heads, as well as the PMO organization.
What you can do:Build the engineering development effort and own the execution and implementation of the engineering process: design, development, integration, test, and performance verification in concert with the Chief Engineer and Project ManagerAccountable for aggregate technical team, engineering plan and execution, and performance to planEnsure that program technical resource needs are defined and met by working with the Chief Engineer and functional organizations to identify and secure appropriate staffingManage resource needs and lead engineering activities for a multi-functional engineering teamImplement program plans to conform to technical performance, cost, and schedule commitmentsCoordinate all engineering work to support the project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS): Assist in the management and application of the IMSLead development of engineering inputs to program IMSProvide day-to-day prioritization of tasks within scheduleWork with PM/scheduler to update engineering personnel estimationAccountable for engineering tasks, budget, schedule, and performanceTracking and reporting of engineering progressCoordinate and drive engineering tasks and actions to closure in a timely fashionManage the planning, execution, and tracking/reporting of all technical aspects of the engineering development for assigned projectEvaluate the integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment; ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed in accordance with Chief Engineer and SME guidanceLead the engineering product development process through major program landmark reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, FRR, etc), in addition to helping establish the overall review planSupport development of interface control documents, software requirement specifications, performance specificationsSupport the development and execution of test plans and guides the integration, verification, validation, and documentation of requirements through the system development cycleKeep comprehensive notes/records, provides formal documentation following established processes and makes technical presentations, as requiredTravel Expectations: 10-20%Other duties as requiredWhat you can contribute:Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical fieldA minimum of fifteen (15) years of engineering related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)Strong skills in management, project management, leadership, communication, systems engineering, and engineering technical fieldsExpertise in at least one engineering technical field or domain is required. Examples: power electronics, vehicles drive train, energy storage, mechanisms, structures, and flight sciences, etcDetailed knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, flow down of system requirements, system architecture and the interaction of system and subsystem requirementsDetailed understanding system verification and validation to ensure the final products conform to the stated requirementsStrong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Project, Atlassian) and strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skillsMulti-tasking teammate with a hands-on approach; formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving sophisticated technical engineering problemsProven ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads of technical team to meet established timeline or achievementsBroad, multi-disciplinary technical expertise and a history of applying of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practiceHave a desire to work in a fast-paced testing environmentProactive delivery of communication and follow upExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailSelf-motivated and forward-thinking personalityYou may also be able to contribute:Master’s degree preferredExperience with PLM (e.g. 3DX), requirements (e.g. DOORS), and MBSE (e.g. Rhapsody) tools desiredAny offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background check.
