The State University of New York at Oneonta is seeking applications for the position of Sports Information Director. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure position. The University is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and sponsors 21 Division III varsity sports.

The mission of the Department of Athletics is to develop exemplary scholar-athletes who strive for competitive excellence, academic achievement, and a commitment to service. Duties include but not limited to:

The successful candidate will be responsible for

  • All aspects of the sports information office within the athletic department
  • Media relations administration and promotion for 21 NCAA varsity sports
  • Management of sports information budget
  • Supervision of professional staff along with supervision and training of student workers to support programming, development and planning for the sports information office and all sporting events
  • Development of public relations and communication strategies to enhance the visibility and image of the athletic program and the university as a whole
  • Responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong media contacts, organizing community relations activities, and the oversight of athletic event score tables, statistics, and results reporting
  • Production of all media releases and serves as the department liaison to the media
  • Maintaining the athletic homepage and collection of all historical data pertinent to the department
  • Submits all NCAA and conference schedules, rosters, statistics, as well as weekly, annual, and end of season nominations for various awards
  • Participate in planning and preparation for athletic department special events
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations

They will possess the ability to effectively communicate with a range of constituents and contribute to a positive work environment.

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proficient working knowledge of NCAA Livestats, StatCrew scoring software, and PrestoSports statistical software
  • Experience in webpage use and development
  • Strong written, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience working in a sports information office
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and video editing software
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms specifically Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Supervisory experience of professional or student staff
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
