Staff Software Engineer at Sumo Logic

What you will be doing:

• Work with a team of infrastructure engineers in the design, development and build of new infrastructure capabilities. 
• Perform the following specific duties: design, architect and implement highly scalable, distributed and fault tolerant multi-tenant backend systems. 
• Apply solid understanding and working knowledge of object oriented and functional programming languages, UNIX operating systems, networking, and scaling techniques to building next generation systems. 
• Evaluate requirements, estimate development costs, design and implement the software, review the design, architecture and implementation, and improve the development process. 
• Define and influence engineering best practices across the organization.
• Partner on cross-group initiatives to achieve local and global business and architecture goals and seek out ways to optimize processes as well as manage and organize work to improve business performance and long-term architecture.
• Define technical specifications, influence product direction and manage roadmap, iterate plans and communicate to stakeholders. 
• Improve design specifications and write elegant code. Solve complex problems by iterating, redesigning, and innovating systems. 
• Lead, organize, and participate in cross-team discussions. Characterize complex problems related to the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of production systems. 
• Mentor junior developers in improving technical skills and career growth. 
• Develop instrumentation/profiling tools and systems. Scale-up and tune search systems to the next level. 
• Involve in the following projects: Ingest data pipeline optimization for performance and scale, tooling and Infrastructure for managing Distributed Systems at scale.
• Telecommuting is permitted.

What we need from you

Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related IT field and five (5) years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer or in a related role. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience, will accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related IT field and three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer or in a related role.

• Experience with: 

• AWS or other cloud services; Linux, multi-threaded programming, distributed systems; real-time streaming workflow over large amounts of data; 
• Object-oriented programming using Java, Scala, C or Python; and 
• Algorithms and performance characteristics of large, distributed software systems.
