Overview

As a member of the senior leadership team, the VP of Sales is responsible for leading and cultivating progressive client relationships and creating value through operational and strategic growth initiatives in the cement industry. This role is Instrumental in overseeing business performance related to commercial excellence, service delivery, operations/inventory management, and participates in planning, implementation, and execution of the Company’s overall business strategies. Build a culture centered on customer service and responsiveness, maintain a reputation of customer intimacy and product reliability/quality. Aspire to be the best in the cement industry at servicing customers. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the sales team's participation in initiatives that drive exceptional results of the Company’s short-term and long-term strategies including meeting EBITA objectives.
  • Act as the face of the Company cultivating and fostering positive relationships with high level contacts of key accounts and represent the Company at various conferences and industry events.
  • Work closely with Market Managers to develop a strategy to identify local construction projects on which the Company is the successful cement supplier Identify challenges, trends and emerging issues with markets, industries, customers, and competitors to proactively capitalize on the situation or identify areas for improvement to better position the Company in the future.
  • Ensure regular and accurate forecast updates are provided as well as participate in the preparation of the annual budget, prepare annual forecast including sales, volume, and pricing.
  • In conjunction with the Market Managers, provide information to customers concerning the Company's products, quality, payment requirements, technical services, and other related issues.
  • Ensure sales team utilizes company CRM to record all activity to maximize efficiency and productivity, adhering to company policies and guidelines while adhering to competitive pricing documentation in accordance with the Company’s Antitrust Compliance guidelines.
  • Work closely with the VP of Manufacturing to ensure the Company's production capabilities and sales needs are aligned to the greatest extent possible.
  • Drive cultural change throughout the sales organization to set, drive and enforce harmonized standards by traveling with or without Market Manager(s) to provide assistance, evaluate performance, coach where necessary and deliver top of the line customer experiences.
  • Responsible for setting clear expectations of direct reports, providing support to meet expectations, evaluating performance, and creating talent bench strength.
  • In conjunction with the finance team, evaluate the credit worthiness of current and prospective customers and assist when needed to collect outstanding balances from customers in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.

Ability, Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or 10 years sales experience, and 7 years leading sales team with demonstrated success (manufacturing, industrial and/or mining environment preferred).
  • Technical understanding of cement and working knowledge of concrete products, practices and technology preferred.
  • Deep understanding and ability to comply with all applicable federal, state, industry regulations and standards.
  • Strong commercial skills, including pricing strategy, contract negotiation, dispute resolution/claims support, and building mutually productive customer relationships at the highest levels.
  • Financial acumen with the ability to communicate performance metrics in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members and external departments.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to overall team results.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 50% with or without notice.

Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
