Overview

The VP, Technical Services – Cement, plays a vital role within the company and will contribute to the overall success of the business and improve operations. Must be a strong leader with a full understanding of technical matters associated with cement manufacturing, operations, and continuous improvement. This position is a part of the senior leadership team (SLT) and responsible for leading a team of Cement Technical Subject Matters Experts (SMEs) to support cement manufacturing operation’s process, operations, quality, mechanical, and electrical departments and will lead the development of strategies related to the installation, retrofits, upgrades, and refurbishments of cement systems to achieve best-in-class operational performance, at the lowest overall cost while working to support and maintain production functions. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Drive synergy realization by development, oversight, and execution of technical evaluations, improvement profiles, and innovation roadmaps.
  • Lead strategic planning and tracking of cement sustainability progress, including initiatives for energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
  • Actively participate and oversee the development of strategic initiatives to support operational, innovative, and sustainability.
  • Support manufacturing excellence by implementing HQ operational measures and initiatives within the Cement Segment.
  • Lead the execution of best-in-class technical and operational programs and interface with vendors, contractors, and engineering firms whose functions are to provide project support with engineering and technical know-how associated with capital project installations.
  • Accountable for technical support and evaluation of new equipment implementation and procedures including training when required.
  • Responsible for establishing guidelines, processes, and systems to monitor equipment conditions through systematic process audit and evaluations to baseline performance and develop continuous improvement plans for all grinding equipment.
  • Lead technical evaluations to define strategies related to installation, retrofits, upgrades, and refurbishment of cement manufacturing plants.
  • Support equipment designers / manufacturers in determination of equipment specifications for improvement and expansion projects.
  • Promotes new ideas in technology and leads improvements and innovations within cement processes for plant optimizations.
  • Drive innovation in cement business through technology evaluation for applicability and integration at plant sites.
  • Ensure technical training assessments and programs including mechanical, electrical, process, quality, and operations are in place.
  • Participate in the budgeting process, providing advice in planning and scheduling of major / costly maintenance activities.
  • Remain current in advanced technology and equipment through participation of company networks and maintaining relationships with other practitioners and suppliers.
  • Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.

Ability, Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree (post-secondary education preferred) in a closely related field or 7 years’ proven experience leading an enterprise-wide technical services team (cement experience strongly preferred)
  • Technical knowledge of cement industry, practices, and technology highly preferred.
  • Understanding and ability to comply with all applicable federal, state, industry regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Possess strong leadership skills with a high level of integrity and commitment to overall team results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with internal teams and external companies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint etc.
  • Due to the nature of this position, it is essential regular and reliable attendance is adhered to such as being available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time with or without notice.

Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
