Director of Digital Engineering

Position Summary:

The Digital Engineering Team promotes a holistic approach to design and construction model-based services and technologies. The group defines the company strategy around the use of BIMs, data integration across models and departments, and cultural change across project teams to realize significant risk reduction on construction cost and schedule.

Leveraging the design, engineering, and construction knowledge of Suffolk and Suffolk Design, the Digital Engineering Team is charged with executing Plan Control and creating innovative solutions in tech and process to ensure Suffolk is the best contractor in every region it operates.

Plan Control is Suffolk’s industry-leading process to deliver completed and coordinated drawings to project teams prior to work in place.

Plan Control has been a Standard Operating Procedure at Suffolk for 5 years and is one of Suffolk’s most effective tools to ensure our projects are on time and on budget. Acknowledging the success we have seen, the Digital Engineering Team is focused on ensuring that it continues to differentiate Suffolk amongst its competitors.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Manage the successful delivery of Digital Engineering, Virtual Design & Construction, and Plan Control for Suffolk’s across the Suffolk regional portfolio.
• Develop BIM Execution Plans and Digital Engineering strategies that achieve/exceed Suffolk and our clients’ goals.
• Develop scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for Digital Engineering services for projects and pursuits.
• Develop 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, & 7D models to support pursuits, preconstruction, construction, and handover phases.
• Manage DE/VDC/P C on multiple large and complex projects simultaneously. Drive the coordination process hard, while understanding competing interests, creating a balanced outcome for all stakeholders.
• Part of a leadership committee responsible for strategy and execution of Plan Control, all BIM and VDC services, integration with construction site technology, digital integration and workflow development, and DE-related enterprise SAAS.
• Collect, track, and analyze project data and KPIs; develop tools and process innovations for continual improvement.
• Implement and drive processes, reports, analytics, lessons learned and training materials to support the implementation of new disruptive processes across the regions. This would include travel to our regional offices and Jobsites.
• Create reports and presentations on analytical findings for delivery to senior management.
• Provide training and support of software and tools to project teams.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development to create effective sales and marketing tools and strategies.
• Educates partners about Suffolk Design processes and protocols to ensure understanding and compliance.
• Assist and support the Senior Director of Digital Engineering and the Head of Suffolk Design in successful execution of the business plan and 5-year strategy.
• Manage a growing team focused on customer (project teams) and client success and satisfaction. Responsible for excellence in delivery every time.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• 4-year degree in an accredited industry related curriculum.
• Minimum 10-15 years of VDC and Project Management related design and/or construction experience with demonstrated progression of technical knowledge and responsibilities.
• Proven success leading VDC on multiple large and complex projects simultaneously. Experience with complex projects and different building types required.
• Substantial understanding of general construction techniques and systems. Ability to identify coordination issues, propose solutions, and drive teams towards solutions.
• Advanced capability in 3D parametric modeling software and model coordination software. Ability to produce quantity takeoff extraction, clash detection, creation of custom Revit families, 4D simulations integrating construction schedule, and rendering high quality images of models.
• Customer-focused; ability to engage stakeholders and drive customer outcomes.
• Able to work effectively as part of a team and maintain confidentiality of information.
• Experience managing direct reports preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication; skilled in teaching, training, and presentations.

• Negotiates effectively by managing conflicting goals and agendas across stakeholder groups. Ability to build advocacy and endorsement of ideas and initiatives from key stakeholders.
• Understands Suffolk’s commercial strategy and ensures key decisions made support the business imperatives and goals.
• Role models optimism and a positive outlook, even during difficult situations, being future-and solution-focused.
