Title: Director, Analytics Engineering

Job Summary:
The Director, Analytics Engineering is responsible for leading development, implementation, and operations of the company's Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program. This strategic leader works closely with various departments to support analytics driven initiatives to elevate support of students and staff. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, senior technical leader, experienced in implementing an enterprise-wide AI and ML engineering practice. This position reports to the VP of Enterprise Data Strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Build Company's Analytics Engineering practice to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and related advanced analytics initiatives.
Guide definition and implementation of Analytics Engineering capabilities for advanced analytics initiatives. This includes tools, standards, pipelines, platforms, operations, model performance tuning, and automations.
Partner with departments and Business Insights groups to identify analytics opportunities and drive design and implementation of engineering requisites to operationalize these opportunities.
Work closely with Data Engineering, Data Architecture, and Data Governance teams to ensure Analytics Engineering practice adheres to enterprise standards and frameworks.
Ensure Analytics Engineering practice conforms with company's infrastructure, security, compliance, and FinOps standards. Support and operationalize AI/ML governance for equitable and ethical AI and ML use within the organization.
Hire and build high performance Analytics Engineering team to meet the needs of company's dynamic and growing organization.
Act as an evangelist for the cause of advanced analytics, bridge functional and technical requirements with stakeholders. Drive actionable, tangible, and explainable outcomes based on AI/ML that add business value.
Empower and sustain company's digital transformation and expansion efforts with best-in-class analytics ecosystem to enable greater student and employee success.
Advise on resource planning, personnel decisions, and team structures to meet current and expected future needs of the institution. Provide inputs to Opex / Capex budgets.
Stay abreast of new developments in analytics engineering; recommend and support case for technology enhancements with an eye towards new capabilities and/or capability improvements that deliver a strong value proposition.
Be a champion of continuous improvement, understand and address gaps within the department related to technology, collaboration, team health, operational workflows, etc. to deliver sustainable excellence. Own the outcome. Execute as one collectively with IT leadership peers.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, analytics, computer science or a similar discipline from an accredited institution.
7 years' experience formal analytics program leadership, ideally in a transformation environment.
Significant experience in Azure Databricks or equivalent technology stack. This includes Databricks Lakehouse, Feature engineering, MLFlow, AutoML, Notebooks, Cluster and Jobs management, Lakehouse monitoring, Unity Catalog, and MLOps pipelines.
Excellent leadership skills, including strategic thinking, analytical reasoning, alignment building, initiative, collaboration, communication, and empathy.
Experience hiring, leading, and developing high-functioning analytics engineering teams, monitoring and managing team performance, and supporting individual career growth through mentorship, coaching, and feedback.
Experience leading complex technical projects from business requirements and system design through production. Technical ability to problem-solve with engineers on architectural trade-offs and technology selection.
Hands-on experience designing, building, and orchestrating data pipelines, data transformation and storage solutions in a high-volume production environment.
Able to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
Supportive of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
Preferred Requirements:
Master's degree in engineering, analytics, computer science or a similar discipline from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 3 years senior IT leadership experience leading complex initiatives.
Databricks or equivalent analytics certification, FinOps certification
Experience in using data governance frameworks built in tools like Azure Purview.
Experience with higher education technology, data, student information, learning and systems like Anthology, Brightspace D2L and similar preferred.
Experience with IT governance and compliance controls and procedures, and with frameworks like SOX, COBIT, GLBA and NIST 800.
