Suburban Cook County Online Application Consortium is Hiring a School Nurse (Long-Term Leave of Absence) Near Washington, WA

JOB TITLE: School Nurse
REPORTS TO: School Principal
SUPERVISES: Students
DEPARTMENT: Student Services
JOB TYPE: Full-Time (35 hours/week)
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY/BENEFITS: Commensurate with education & experience

JOB FUNCTION
Treats students for medical issues, helps prevent physical issues and disease, and coordinates routine health assessments.

This position directly reports to the school principal and functionally reports to the other school administrators and district directors. This position coordinates with the other teachers, instructional coaches, school psychologists, and school social workers along with other support staff, students, guardians, and the community.

TERM
Shall work July 29, 2024, thru December 20, 2024 according to the school calendar as defined by the Board of Education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not all-inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.
  1. Responsible for professional, medical treatment of students.
  2. Responsible for early detection of physical problems and health evaluations.
  3. Responsible for disease prevention.
  4. Assists in promoting programs on health-education and immunization.
  5. Maintains clinical records.
  6. Coordinates vision, hearing, and orthopedic screening and health assessments.
  7. Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
  8. Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
  9. Builds and maintains positive rapport and communication with students and guardians.
  10. Monitors halls and study periods with other faculty and staff.
  11. Establishes and implements nurses office management structure and rules that ensure the physical and mental safety of all students; ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
  12. Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  13. Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in nursing.
  14. Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
  15. Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrates the achievements and successes of students.
  16. Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
  17. Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
  18. Performs additional related duties within the scope of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families.
  2. Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Proficient with Google Suite or related software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in related subject area and registered nurse (RN) certificate are required. Appropriate state license or certification; School Nurse Endorsement; and previous nursing experience with school-aged children are highly preferred. Driver's license required for student transport is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. If requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job, absent undue hardship.
