STV is seeking an Area Manager - California. This position can be based within one of our Southern California offices, Los Angeles, Irvine, or Rancho Cucamonga.

STV is a leading provider of planning, design, project and program management and construction management

services in the U.S. transportation and infrastructure (T&I) sector. Our business model depends on the combination of deep local relationships, engaged and exceptional technical talent, and outstanding business operations. Area Managers serve as the firm's senior executive within a local area and are accountable to drive outcomes in business development and growth, project delivery, staff engagement and financial performance.

Business Development and Sales

  • Cultivate and manage relationships up and down the client organization and oversee development and execution of client service team plans.
  • Formulate and execute business and marketing plans, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of our services, that align with STV's strategic plan.
  • Drive early identification and management of pipeline opportunities across all services and markets.
  • Make balanced and informed go/no-go decisions in the pursuit process and collaborate on alternative delivery teaming.

Civic and Political Engagement

  • Lead community activities, volunteering, and charitable initiatives to enhance our corporate presence.
  • Assume leadership roles in civic, community, and business groups, fostering executive relationships.
  • Active leadership on ballot or other funding initiatives that align with our values and make recommendations for contributions to support these initiatives where appropriate.

Project Delivery

  • Active engagement in contract development, negotiation, and review, ensuring alignment with business and client interests.
  • Select project managers in consultation with resource managers, oversee project delivery, and conduct regular project reviews with project operations staff.
  • Proactively address project risks, collaborate with project managers, and escalate issues when necessary.

People and Office Leadership

  • Set a compelling vision and strategic direction for the area, fostering innovation, diversity, and teamwork.
  • Lead and influence a diverse workforce, creating a positive office environment.
  • Leverage remote resources to augment project delivery and sales efforts.
  • Stimulate business growth through talent identification, recruitment, and eff management.

Area Financial Performance

  • Proactively track and manage overall financial performance, coordinating with regional management on metrics and results.
  • Engage directly to address performance issues, manage risks, and seek support for remediation.
  • Area Manager performance based on quantitative metrics (sales/backlog, net revenue, operating margin, DSO) and qualitative measures (client feedback, talent development, diversity, quality, safety, ethics).

Attributes of an Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant educational credentials and 10 years of experience in the transportation industry,in a relevant market sector, in roles such as business development, operations management, project or engineering management.
  • Professional registration or certification is a plus.
  • Deep local client relationships, strategic thinking, and a track record of successful sales.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Time Allocation Guidelines

  • Optimal balance with 60-65% of time on external activities (business development, client relations, civic engagement).
  • Allocate 35-40% of time to internal activities (financial management, project performance, staff development).

Compensation Range:

$255,230.00 - $340,307.00
