Study Hotels is Hiring an Accounting Manager Near New Haven, CT

The Study at Yale Hotel is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to manage the hotel’s Accounting Department and provide accurate and relevant financial data to ensure the smooth operation of the property. This position is responsible for the administration of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general cashiering, income auditing and general ledger functions.Our caring and attentive associates reinforce our principal belief that guest service is our highest priority. We have opportunities for energetic, service-oriented individuals who are experienced in providing efficient service and memorable experiences.ResponsibilitiesAdminister all aspects of the accounting department
  • Responsible for the administration of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, general cashiering, income auditing and general ledger functions.
  • Provide direction to the night audit team to ensure proper revenue reporting and design night audit reports to audit daily POS revenue and payment reconciliation.
Have daily and weekly oversight over hotel’s financial activities to achieve forecasted operational and financial goals
  • Review ledger details for guest, city and deposit ledgers to validate proper payment and revenue postings.
  • Reconcile daily cash and credit card deposits.
  • Issue detailed and management dashboard results with current, month-to-date and budget comparisons.
  • Provide weekly payroll against budget reports for culinary, restaurant, front office and housekeeping managers as labor cost management tool.
  • Reconcile weekly tips and gratuities against accounting system total prior to payout.
  • Maintain a checkbook accounting system for all departments to determine purchase approvals and manage spending limits.
Assist month end closing process in accordance with monthly and quarterly checklist
  • Audit House F&B Checks to ensure proper procedures are followed. Prepare and complete monthly worksheet for cost of sales, tips and service charge reimbursements.
  • Review Accounting system report against hotel Property Management System to ensure all revenues and statistics are reported accurately.
  • Reconcile Travel Agents and Sales Commissions on the monthly and quarterly basis prior to payout.

  • Enforce the systems and internal controls over all operating departments including purchasing, cash handling, receipts, disbursements and operating inventories levels that validate the integrity of the financial results and safeguard its assets.
  • Respond promptly to all requests by our outside CPA firm during the annual audit.
Comply with all federal, state and local legal requirements
  • Ensure the accurate and timely payment of fees for licenses, permits and regulatory contracts.
  • Responsible for reconciling state occupancy, sales and use taxes on a timely manner.
  • Review all tax exemption documents to ensure in compliance with state requirements.
Hire, train and lead a team of skilled accounting personnel
  • Create a team-oriented environment to achieve and exceed expectations.Plan, organize and monitor staff activities to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards set for the hotel.
  • Provide on-going supervision, training, counseling, and performance reviews of accounting and night audit staff in conjunction with the Human Resources department. Responsibilities will include the hiring, performance evaluation and development of accounting and night audit team.
Additional responsibilities
  • Develop accounting department templates for night auditors, cashiers and general accounts.
  • Acting as Payroll Manager to administer hotel’s payroll when Director of HR is absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Fundamentals
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in a similar role within the hospitality industry, with a proven advancement record and currently employed in a management position.
  • Skilled in the use of advanced, moderately complex, Property Management, Point of Sale, Accounting, and Time & Attendance Systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of accounting practices and procedures including the Uniform Systems of Accounts for the Hotel Industry.
  • Proficient with US, State, and Local tax regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including follow up, time management, ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments, external vendors, and guests.
