Job Description: Student Research Assistant for Allison Frisch, assistant professor of journalism, who is conducting an ongoing study of college and community news collaborations, the Local News Sustainability Project. The student research assistant is needed to help with a study of the local news landscape. The study will include the number of local journalists, depth and frequency of coverage and availability of local news to citizens across the NYC and Long Island regions of New York.

Duties/Responsibilities: Using criteria provided, a student research assistant will work with Professor Frisch to rate the local news across the New York regions named above and identify the need for multimedia journalists and digital news producers. This will inform the need for future rural newsroom fellowships and opportunities to fund student journalist internships.

Desired Skills/Qualifications: Research, news and academic writing skills required.

Learning Targets: Student will advance research skills, including content analysis.
