POSITION : Student Choice High School - Principal on Assignment 

Employer : Student Choice High School

Supervisor : Primary - Administrator for Leadership & Accountability, in conjunction with campus Principal

FLSA Status : Exempt

Terms of Employment : $65,000-$85,000 DOE annual salary Full Time - 12 months/225 workdays

Job Description : Are you a dedicated educator driven by a passion for nurturing student success in a non-traditional setting? At Student Choice High School, we motivate students through our personalized approach to leading, teaching, and learning. We seek dynamic leaders for our campuses who have the heart to serve students and their communities in a smaller, non-traditional school setting. Under the direction of the campus principal and the Administrator for Leadership and Accountability, the Principal on Assignment will perform administrative responsibilities and provide instructional leadership for planning, management, operation, and evaluation of assigned campus, programs, and projects during a specified time frame identified by their supervisor(s). The Principal on Assignment serves as needed and works cooperatively with leaders and administrators in integrating and coordinating efforts while honing their skills, knowledge, and understanding of SCHS leadership objectives, expectations, and academic and performance systems. 

Duties and Responsibilities: (The Principal on Assignment shall learn/hone the following skills under the supervision of a current SCHS Principal and Administrator for Leadership and Accountability)

Interim Principal Assignment and/or Special Project Duties

  • Serves as a champion for SCHS staff, students, and communities that are passionate about students needing an alternative pathway to complete their high school education
  • Ensures that SCHS systems, practices, and campus/district norms are followed and performed
  • Coordinates the overall day-to-day management of SCHS Principal duties and/or project requirements to ensure objectives are achieved within time/cost/quality constraints
  • Performs the required record-keeping tasks, maintains the appropriate records and ensures fidelity of systems through calibration of evaluators and understands the standards and calibration for performance evaluation;
  • Conducts student intake meetings with students, parents, and adult students
  • Communicate effectively with program and/or project constituents, and key stakeholders to carryout the goals and objectives of SCHS leadership
  • Coordinates and delivers specific project objectives, training, and evaluation(s), if necessary

Professional Support and Coaching

  • Works toward learning, following, and building systems within the district and will be able to provide ongoing support to employees in the realm of evaluation
  • Provides technical assistance to principals and/or managers to drive performance
  • Provides professional support and coaching support to supervisors, managers and/or identified employees; supports the district’s and school culture focused on teaching and learning that is geared toward student success 
  • Conducts observations when needed
  • Attends and shares at Principal PLC meetings
  • Assists campus/district principals with PLC meetings
  • Serves as a resource to other offices and departments within the school system on evaluation of programs and helps develop/maintain staff/teaching best practices
  • Understands, disseminates, and supports educators and/or administrators with best practices that impact student learning

Community Engagement/Outreach

  • Builds relationships with neighbors/businesses that surround the school campus
  • Builds relationships with surrounding high school counselors and/or administrators to serve students who may need an alternative high school setting
  • Plan, attend and support campus outreach events
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications Needed to be a Principal on Assignment

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships within SCHS departments to drive collaboration and project success and exhibits a “team-player” mentality with a “can do” attitude
  • Demonstrates an ability to develop the leadership skills of others
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in school administration, curriculum, current instructional practices and trends, and use of materials and equipment to facilitate instruction
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with the development of data-driven instruction at the school/district level with documented results;
  • Proven track record of school improvement success (can be academic, athletic, programmatic, project-based)
  • Evidence of sound problem-solving skills related to schools/districts
  • Demonstrated competency in developing and leading professional development sessions for school-based/district leaders and staff members
  • Demonstrated computer/educational technology skills/knowledge (including proficiency in Google Suite, or Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Comfortable working in the school district’s Student Information System (SIS) and Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Comfortable presenting to various audiences/stakeholders about SCHS and its program of instruction 
  • Excellent organizational and human relations skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Minimum:

  • A Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration (consideration will be given to candidates nearing completion of their Master’s Degree).
  • A minimum of five years experience as a teacher or administrator.

Desired:

  • Experience in Alternative Education.
  • Bilingual - Spanish and English.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate.
  • Holds or is nearing completion of an Arizona Administration and Supervision Certificate 
  • Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. 
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
