Student Choice High School is Hiring a High School Lead Science Teacher- District Office Near Peoria, AZ

JOB OPENING: July 1, 2024 (For the upcoming 2024-2025 School Year)

POSITION: LEAD TEACHER - High School - Hybrid Science Teacher

EMPLOYER: Student Choice High School - District OfficeSUPERVISOR: Primary Supervisor - Administrator for Academic Services

FLSA STATUS: Exempt 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $55,000-$65,000 DOE annual salary Full Time - 12 Months/225 workdays 

Lead Science Teacher Position:

  • Hybrid Teaching Role: The Lead Science Teacher position will be classified as a hybrid/remote teaching role. Candidates must be able to begin their duties at the district office and be prepared to undergo training and teaching from the district office for a minimum duration of 8-12 weeks. During this period, they will work under the supervision of the Administrator for Academic Services.
  • Training and Transition: Upon successfully completing the training period, the Administrator for Academic Services will collaborate with the Lead Science Teacher to develop a hybrid teaching schedule tailored to the district's requirements, allowing the teacher to work from home one to two days per week.

  • For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay could be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging).

The role of the Lead Science Teacher at Student Choice High School serves alongside leadership and staff as a champion for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma. This dynamic individual understands alternative education and strongly advocates for underprivileged and under-served youth and young adults. Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Teacher promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school. As a pivotal member of our team, teachers are able to work with students 1:1 and can directly see the impact of their teaching while positively influencing the lives of their students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to help build rapport with students while coaching and guiding them toward their high school diploma.
  • Collaborates with the campus principal to assist with campus leadership, including communication and partnership with all stakeholders.
  • Serves as the Lead Teacher for the assigned Student Success Team.
  • Oversees the Team’s PLC to ensure student academic progress towards completion of high school. requirements for their diploma and student’s college/career pathway for post-secondary opportunities.
  • Serves as the Teacher of Record for assigned courses.
  • Monitors and ensures the efficacy of “Academic Assurances,” which defines the district’s academic policies and procedures.
  • Instructs assigned classes in the location and at the time designated to include tier 2 instruction and remediation.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the students' individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation at the supervisor's request.
  • Guides the learning process by using established, clear objectives to achieve district curriculum goals and state standards.
  • Employs various instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Through instruction and example, strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Seeks the assistance of district specialists when learning disabilities are suspected.
  • Provides a daily review of the LMS Dashboard to monitor student course progress.
  • Conducts frequent Academic Outreach to ensure continuous course progress and student academic achievement.
  • Serves as secondary support for Learning Coach.
  •  Maintains standards of campus behavior and uphold district-wide discipline policies.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Makes provision to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular instructional day when such encounters are required or requested under reasonable terms
  • Supports the philosophy, core values, mission, and vision of Student Choice.
  • Works as part of a collaborative District/Campus team and projects collegiality and the ability to inspire trust.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable District and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and methods.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate (Secondary-Grades 6-12 Certificate, STEM Certificate, Subject Matter Expert Certificate, CTE Certificate, or Alternative Teaching Certificate).
  • Passing score on approved Subject Knowledge Exam 
  • Valid Az IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
