Summary:
Manages a portfolio of complex EPC utility scale Solar and BESS projects 5 MW to 100MW from inception
through project closeout or assists with the management of large EPC projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for managing 5 MW to 100MW solar construction projects from inception through
project closeout.
· Manage all facets of safe and timely scope delivery from Engineering and Procurement through
construction, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, and Close-out
· Establish, maintain, and lead a cohesive and effective Project Team, through open communication and
proactive collaboration. Provide support to anticipate and overcome challenges, while ensuring all
quality standards are maintained and budgets controlled and adhered to.
· Establish the sequence and timing of major work elements that support the contract schedule, while
considering interdependencies, constraints, and logic associated with the project critical path.
· Maintain close control over project expenditure against the agreed budget, while applying wisdom to
cover unbudgeted items that provide execution benefits for the Company and the Project. Ensure
appropriate inputs and realism in cost forecasting while challenging and validating inputs. Ensure that
lessons learned are captured and incorporated in a manner that reflects continual improvement, while
also identifying and realizing associated cost savings.
· Provide accurate reporting and forecasting for all elements of the project schedule and cost
performance including revenue forecast, cash flow statements, and accruals.
· Establish and implement appropriate strategies and measures to provide effective risk mitigation.
· Support Company objectives of customer satisfaction and perception as a world class organization,
with continuous improvement of methods, costs, build time reductions while delivering predictable and
favorable outcomes.
· Facilitate and support timely completion of project milestones considering velocity, keeping Safety and
Environment first, while contributing to effective cash flow.
· Ensure effective communication between Engineering and Supply Chain teams to ensure on time
delivery of materials and equipment to meet Project requirements.
· Oversee the management of system design and Engineering deliverables required for the Project
· Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure project materials, long lead items, and equipment are ordered
on schedule and meet cost and quality targets. Support the evaluation of Subcontractor, vendor and
supplier capabilities and offers utilizing the appropriate disciplines and resources to develop well
defined Scopes of Work being mindful and considerate of Contract flow-downs and deliverables.
· Ensure appropriate staff and resource levels are identified, selected, established, and maintained to
provide effective front-end loading to project success, within agreed budget.
· Evaluate and advise on contractual conflicts and their proposed resolution
· Align Engineering, Procurement, and Construction resources to work closely with Project Controls to
refine the Project WBS and develop a Level 4 schedule using the Critical Path Method, incorporating
subcontractor schedules.
· Ensure timely and accurate schedule updates against Schedule of Values using Earned Value Methods
and understand how Cost and Schedule Performance Indicators track project health.
· Provide timely and accurate reporting
· Ensure Project documentation is maintained per Company standards including RFI’s, Submittals, Drawings, Standards and Specifications, Daily Logs, Force Reports, HSE, Quality, etc…
· Champion company’s First Time Right process throughout the project.
· Responsible for project budget, risk management, safety, and quality.
· Ensure subcontractors are in compliance with all permits and laws, and mitigation measures on the project.
· Maintain high level contact with permitting officials.
· Responsible to manage subcontracts from execution including tracking deliverables, schedules, payments due, managing change orders, and providing notices or dispute resolution if required.
· Develops the Project Management Plan, and coordinates the Procurement, Engineering, Construction, Quality, and HSE Management Plans for Projects under his/her remit
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise PM’s and Project Teams on site, assist with interview and annual reviews.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Skills and Competencies:
· BS in Construction, Engineering, Business or related discipline preferred or 10-15 years of applied PM
practice in renewable energy, industrial construction, or infrastructure projects will be considered.
· PMP or ability to obtain within 6 months
· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
· Advanced knowledge and application of PM processes
· Advanced understanding and application of contract commercial terms
· Ability to negotiate contracts and develop scopes of work, Advanced Work Packaging experience a
plus
· Financial acumen with ability to act with limited supervision in the processing of finance related
information
· Agile in conflict management, and dispute resolution
· Expertise in building codes, permitting and labor issues
· High level of proficiency applying Global best practices in project management with a keen
understanding of construction methodologies
· Strong contract administration and risk management skills
· Strong leadership, written and oral communication, team building, and interpersonal skills
· Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
· Strong customer service skills with focus on active listening with ability to remain calm under pressure
while providing positive, mutually beneficial outcomes
· Ability to conduct negotiations with vendors, supplies, governmental entities, and utilities
· Proficient in coordination of engineering design, procurement, and construction practices and
procedures
· Working knowledge of project management cost systems (i.e. Earned Value Management)
· Working knowledge of project scheduling concepts, techniques, and software such as MS-Project;
experience with Primavera P6 a plus
· Ability to manage 3-5 projects of varying values and degrees of difficulty
· Solar Industry experience a plus
Background and Experience:
· Experience with Viewpoint and PWA a plus
· Experience in solar or energy related projects of $50M preferred
· Experience managing subcontractors, direct hire, self-perform experience a plus.
· Superior project management skills.
· Strong inclination to a process driven environment.
· Outstanding communication skills.
· Travel to project site 50-75 % of the time as required.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment and in the field. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up
to 20 pounds
