Steppingstone Foundation Inc is Hiring an Accounting Manager Near Boston, MA

Description

Position Title: Accounting Manager

Reports To: Chief Finance and Operations Officer

Organization Overview:

The Steppingstone Foundation (TSF) prepares students from marginalized communities to access, navigate, and graduate from college through two initiatives, the Steppingstone Scholars Program and the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA). The Steppingstone Scholars Program is a direct-service program in Boston that provides academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness services to students, called Scholars, beginning as early as fifth grade and continuing all the way through college graduation. The Steppingstone Scholars Program consists of five components: Admissions, the Academy, Middle School Success, High School Success, and College Success. NPEA connects the people, practices, and innovations for eliminating barriers to educational access, and college and career success for underserved students.

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is a member of the organization’s Operations team. The Operations team members (Chief Financial & Operations Officer, Senior Director of IT & Administration, Director of People & Culture, HR Coordinator, Accounting Manager, and Admin Coordinator) work closely together to provide information and resources that support an effective and productive work environment for all Steppingstone employees. The Accounting Manager maintains accurate records of all the organization’s financial transactions. As a member of the Operations team, the Accounting Manager will be expected to cross-train on other responsibilities. 

This position is for 20 hours per week, with some flexibility around work hours (preferably three days per week) and may be eligible for fully remote work. A $500 home office set-up stipend will be provided upon hire, followed by quarterly stipends of $50. Laptops are provided to each employee to enhance the remote work experience.

Start Date: September 2022

Salary: $31,000 - $35,000

Responsibilities:

  • Review accounts payable transactions in Bill.com and resolve discrepancies as they arise.
  • Process accounts receivable, cash receipts & other revenue transactions in QuickBooks according to approved procedures
  • Make journal entries and enter data as needed into QuickBooks
  • Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations for review and approval
  • Manage the monthly financial close and assist with the preparation of various financial reports
  • Maintain supporting schedules and spreadsheets as needed
  • Field finance & budget related questions 
  • Assist with the annual independent audit and budgeting process

Requirements

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices 
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills and attention to detail
  • Strong customer-service orientation with both internal and external customers
  • Effective organization, time-management, and project-management skills 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and professionalism
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Knowledge of and comfort with technology

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Accounts payable, and cash receipts processing experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Bill.com, & Excel preferred

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work at a desk, communicate information, move about the office, operate office equipment and utilize a computer for extended periods of time.

Finalists will be given details about how to demonstrate receipt of vaccination.
