Technology AspectTo establish a clear duty of care, Stellar Virtual and its affiliates require all employees to cover the costs associated with acquiring and providing the equipment (i.e., computers, internet service, telephone, home office setup, etc.) associated with virtual employment.

Position Overview

Arizona Virtual Tech Academy, a program of Stellar Virtual in the State of Arizona, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Director of Academics, to lead our innovative virtual learning institution. This position will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience and ensuring the academic success of our students across the state. The person selected for this role will offer a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking educational organization that embraces technology to provide a high-quality virtual learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership to promote excellence in online education. Develop and implement academic goals, policies, and programs that align with the school's mission and ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Oversee and support a team of educators and administrative staff to create a collaborative and positive work environment. Foster professional growth through mentoring, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and curriculum specialists to design and implement a rigorous, standards-based online curriculum. Ensure instructional materials are engaging, relevant, and accessible to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Implement strategies to promote student engagement, motivation, and success in the virtual learning environment. Develop programs to address the social-emotional well-being of students and foster a sense of belonging and community.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the community to promote effective communication and collaboration. Foster partnerships with external organizations to enhance educational opportunities for students.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to monitor student progress, evaluate instructional effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement. Implement strategies to support student achievement and close achievement gaps.
  • Develop and manage the school's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support instructional needs and operational requirements.
  • Stay abreast of emerging educational technologies and leverage them to enhance instruction, engagement, and efficiency within the virtual learning environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role in an educational setting, preferably with experience in virtual or online education; 7 or more years is preferred. 
  • Must reside in the State of Arizona and be familiar with managing physical or virtual learning programs that align with state education standards.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a diverse team. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Comfortable with using educational technology tools and platforms. 
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and virtual collaboration tools is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices. 
  • Knowledge of best practices in online teaching and learning.
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future needs, and drive innovation in online education. 
  • A passion for advancing educational opportunities for all students.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing circumstances. 
  • Proven ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Skilled at building and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and the community.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • A master's degree in education or a related field is required. A bachelors degree may be accepted instead of a masters in lieu of experience (8-10 years with Arizona education systems or institutions). 
  • A valid Arizona Principal Certificate is required.
