Substitute Teacher - Deaf School

Job Duties
Purpose: Substitute for permanent teacher.
Instructs, follows lesson plans, and assesses student knowledge on behalf of the permanent teacher:
  • Incorporates specified lesson plans, using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, library resources, computers and the Internet;
  • In instances of long term coverage, prepares own lesson plans and/or instructional material and ensures students receive the required instruction according to school's curriculum;
  • Maintains student records regarding grades and attendance;
  • Engages students in meaningful and authentic instruction, remediation and assessment activities;
  • Consults with administration on responsibilities and assigned planning period during the primary teacher's absence.
Maintains a well-structured educational environment:
  • Maintains order in the classroom and, in conjunction with administrative staff, disciplines when necessary to achieve proper behavior;
  • Reports to administrator unusual behavior issues.
Monitors students when needed:
  • Keeps records of academic performance, attendance and social acclimation;
  • Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents;
  • Shares, with other teachers and staff, responsibility for monitoring halls, study periods and lunchroom;
  • Reports cases of suspected child abuse to administrator and/or law enforcement authorities according to state law.
Maintains professional licensure and development:
  • Upgrades personal/professional knowledge and skills pursuant to State of Ohio teaching licensure requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned:
  • Assists with transition, IEPs and etc.;
  • Conducts standardized tests.
Qualifications

Must maintain valid Ohio substitute teacher license or higher.

Must demonstrate Advanced level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) within one year of hire, Intermediate level minimum for hiring.
