The N.C. Office of the Commissioner of Banks (NCCOB) is responsible for the chartering and regulation of North Carolina's state banks, trust companies, mortgage companies, as well as registration and licensing of various financial institutions operating in North Carolina. Examiner positions require 10-60% overnight travel from your duty station, depending on your work assignment. Examiners work a Monday-Thursday, 10-hour day schedule.
Examiner positions require the identification, compilation, and organization of relevant data (financial or non-financial) to analyze and draw sound logical conclusions for work assignments or examinations of financial institutions with moderate-to-high risk profiles and/or complex structures. Management preference will be given to applicants from a state or federal banking regulatory agency with experience. Additionally, applicants with cross-functional (i.e. audit, capital markets, risk management, BSA, asset management, credit) experience in the evaluation of risk at large or complex financial institutions will also be given preference. Preference will also be given to applicants with: Completion of the FDIC Introduction to Examinations School or CSBS Certified Operations Examiner School, FDIC Financial Institution Analysis School or CSBS BANK Dynamics School, FDIC Asset Liability Management School or the FRB Principles of Asset Liability Management, and the FDIC Loan Analysis School or CSBS Credit Evaluation School.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (banking, finance, business, accounting) and a minimum of 2 courses of accounting AND at least five (5) years (advanced level) or three (3) years (journey level) of RECENT professional experience participating in regulatory oversight of financial institutions OR ten (10) (advanced level) or nine (9) (journey level), or more, years of RECENT professional experience examining financial institutions on behalf of a state or federal regulatory body, or any combination of these or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
