Â
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is recruiting for two Payment Processors in our Taxpayer Assistance and Collection Division. The Payments and Data Processing Unit is responsible for timely and accurately processing payments received by the Taxpayer Assistance and Collection Division from installment payment plans and garnishments. This position serves as a team member of the Payments and Data Processing Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to process payments received from taxpayers, financial institutions, and employers in a timely and accurate manner. N.C. General Statute 147-77 requires that all state agencies are required to deposit all funds daily; however, due to the volume received by the Department of Revenue, payments are expected to be deposited in the bank within three days of receipt. The work environment for this team is fast-paced and requires diligence, attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to adapt easily to change.
Â
Payment submissions made by taxpayers, employers, and financial institutions with sufficient information may only require the creation and processing of a manual voucher. However, payment submissions that lack sufficient information are exceptions that require additional research in various computer applications at the Department of Revenue including, but not limited to, ITAS and/or interaction with the taxpayer, employer, or financial institution. This position is responsible for creating and processing vouchers for garnishment payments received from financial institutions and/or employers as well as researching payments received without sufficient information. Completion of this work may require working in ITAS, as well as Department databases, such as the Garnishment Lookup Database.
Â
This position also processes incoming mail, records notes in the Department's system of record ITAS, and may make basic updates to accounts by working in the Document Management System (DMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Experience entering data efficiently and accurately.
  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
