State of North Carolina is Hiring an Accounting Specialist I Near Wake, NC

The Operations Unit of the NC State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH) is currently accepting applications for a Accounting Specialist I. The Operations Unit provides logistical and facility support of the NC SLPH as well as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). This position performs accounting duties such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, fixed assets, travel authorizations/reimbursements and invoicing. This position works with 1 other Accounting Specialist, a Lead Accounting Technician and a Grants Coordinator. This position reports to the Accounting Supervisor for SLPH.
The position’s duties include but are not limited to:
  • Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Accounts Payable functions.
  • Reconciling invoices against purchase orders while working directly with vendors, warehouse/receiving staff, and the SLPH Purchasing Agent to facilitate the processing of a variety of invoices.
  • Resolving invoice discrepancies.
  • Tracking/managing fixed assets.
  • Assist the Laboratory in maximizing the collection of receipts including Medicaid and other fees through several activities.
  • Assist in preparation of deposit, ensuring proper deposit into correct revenue account/cost center combination. 
  • Assist with administrative functions related to travel authorizations, travel reimbursements etc.
  • Assist in processing and sending Newborn Screening invoices and credits on a monthly basis, as well as lab invoices daily.

  • Knowledge of accounts payable and/or receivables

Management Preferences:
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) or other accounting applications
