Introduction

The Maryland State Department of Education is dedicated to supporting a world-class educational system that prepares all students for college and career success in the 21st century. With excellent stewardship from our divisions, we oversee State and federal programs that support the needs of a diverse population – students, teachers, principals, and other educators throughout Maryland. As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This position provides administrative support, technical assistance and office support to the Director of Administration and Financial Services in planning, implementing and monitoring Statewide activities involving the Office of Administration and Financial Services. Some of the responsibilities include creating and working with spreadsheets, developing correspondence, preparing reports for the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), maintaining and reconciling corporate credit cards and ordering equipment and supplies.
In addition, this position also provides administrative and technical support to the Office of Assistant State Superintendent in Rehabilitation Services, the Office of Quality Assurance, Policy and Planning, DORS administrative offices, and remote back-up of DORS field services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
  • Experience working in a Vocational Rehabilitation or other program that provides services to individuals with disabilities
  • Experience creating and working with spreadsheets to track information and generate reports

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
