The Work You Will Do:
This is an entry-level environmental specialist position in the Office of Air Monitoring (OAM) in the Division of Air Resource Management (DARM). This position is primarily responsible for providing support to DARM related air monitoring activities, including providing database maintenance support, developing and revising various types of air monitoring quality assurance user documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical notes, how-to guides, references, manuals, forms and instructions; reviewing and making technical environmental evaluations and recommendations concerning the collection, analysis and reporting of ambient air quality data; and gaining knowledge and experience in support of the Division’s Laboratory operations. This position requires being a respectful team member, displaying a cooperative attitude, and achieving goals identified in the Division’s Business Plan.

The Division of Air Resource Management is charged with regulation of Florida’s air resource, including air quality monitoring, permitting and ensuring compliance of emission sources. Through a variety of services for our customers – the public and industry – the division regulates the state of Florida’s air resource fairly, consistently, and efficiently, while implementing state, federal, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements and enabling the economic development of the state. The Division provides these services through its Director’s Office, Office of Business Planning, Office of Air Monitoring, Permit Review Section, and Compliance Assurance Section.

Pay:
Salary Range Annually $41,000.00 - $45,250.00 (Commensurate based on experience)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Data Verification and Audit Response Support: Participates in Level 1 data reviews. Monitors and reviews statewide trends in ambient air monitoring data and site and equipment operating parameters. Collates information from performance audits and site reviews. Assists with records management and reviews for technical systems audits and corrective actions.
Documentation Support: Provides support in the preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and forms used in the ambient monitoring and quality assurance program areas. Reviews, modifies, and distributes SOPs, forms, and quality assurance documentation to comply with environmental standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Data Validation Support: Participates in the review of data packets and the review of quarterly AQS Reports. Assists in the compilation and tracking of concerns and issues identified in the Monthly Review of Data Validation Reports, and as needed during the Data Validation quality assurance (QA) review process.
Air Monitoring Database Systems Support: Provides technical assistance with maintenance, testing, and operation of the statewide air monitoring database management system (DBMS). Work closely with Division staff and the Department’s Information Technology personnel in maintaining the DBMS.
Meeting and Training Support: Records, distributes, and archives meeting, training notes, and supporting materials. Develops training support materials (presentations, videos, etc.) for program training events. Participates in program related training events.
Laboratory Operations Support: Gains knowledge and experience in support of the Division’s Laboratory operations.
Performs other duties as required by the Administrator or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical and natural sciences
Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures
Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations and State of Florida Administrative Codes as they apply to the quality assurance for ambient air monitoring
Knowledge of the capabilities of the various State and Local air monitoring programs
Skilled in using personal computers
Skilled in performing basic math calculations
Skilled in database programs and records maintenance
Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data
Ability to prepare technical reports
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs
Ability to work independently
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to contribute to the success of the organization
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to be an effective, conscientious and respectful team member, in the performance of job duties
Other Job-Related Requirements for this position:
Valid Driver’s license
Travel on state business
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University with a major in any of the biological sciences, agriculture and natural resources, physical science or natural science fields, or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of four years.
