Summary Statement
The Office of Engineering is responsible for permitting, compliance and enforcement of regulated Drinking Water activities in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. This position is responsible for the review and approval of drinking water construction plans that meet state and federal regulations. Successful consultation with agency peers, industry representatives, and public water system owner operators is a core function, including providing guidance and assistance on complex matters and regulations. Contacts include acting as liaison between the department, municipalities, commercial/industrial organizations and federal regulatory agencies regarding compliance, funding, and research. Additional duties include preparing impact statements and draft permits; notifying municipal, industrial/commercial representative on needed revisions; making recommendations on corrective action; initiating enforcement procedures.
Essential Functions

  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Possession of a Bachelors Degree or higher in Civil Engineering OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination (in the assigned engineering discipline) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
  2. At least four years experience Civil Engineering.
  3. Knowledge of engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering project.
