Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $28.31Fairbanks salary: $29.16Juneau salary: $29.73 What you will be doing: The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Division of Administrative Services (DAS) is looking to fill an Accounting Technician 3 position. This position provides accounting support for the facilities construction program, which manages the Village Safe Water (VSW) Program. This program provides grant and loan funding to Alaska communities to plan, design, and construct sanitation and water quality related projects. This position provides oversight of Force Account Labor Administration and is responsible for monthly bank to book reconciliation of the program’s payroll processing contract. As part of the team of grant accountant’s work, this position supports program engineers by analyzing expenditure trends, setting up and adjusting budgets, and generating ad hoc reports. As part of the DAS team, you will also work closely with your partners on issues of budget, financial management, and procurement.Our organization, mission, and culture: The administrative services team is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service and embrace the department’s mission of “Conserving, improving, and protecting Alaska’s natural resources and environment to enhance health, safety, and economic and social well-being of Alaskans.” This position will be assigned to specifically support the Village Safe Water program by providing accounting and fiscal support and oversight, budget and financial monitoring, economic analysis, and reporting project managers and program stakeholders.The benefits of joining our team: The Division of Administrative Services offers a flexible, supportive, and collaborative work environment. Complies with established control systems and rules.Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, and sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.Teamwork: Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.Accounting Knowledge: Has a general knowledge of accounting principles and practices, especially pertaining to accounts payable and accounts receivable. Has used, and is familiar with, accounting systems, such as IRIS, the state’s accounting system.Internal Controls: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques for establishing internal control activities (for example, authorizations, verifications, reconciliations), monitoring their use, and evaluating their performance (for example, identification of material weaknesses or significant deficiencies).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
