Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the Fall 2020 academic year, we currently enroll approximately 14,000 students in which 47% identify as Latinx, 13% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 30% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 5% as multiracial. Clovis Community College is a Hispanic -Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Under administrative direction, the DSP&S Transition to College (TTC)/Dual Enrollment (DuE) Counselor will provide the complete range of counseling, accommodation and support resource services offered by the Disabled Students Programs & Services office at Clovis Community College. The TTC/DuE Counselor will be primarily serving students who are participating in Transition to College and/or Dual Enrollment. Duties and responsibilities will include the following:
  • Applying an equity-minded framework and ensuring services and processes are designed and delivered to meet the diverse needs of students;
  • Evaluating verification of disability documentation, identifying educational limitations and arranging for appropriate and reasonable accommodations which address those limitations;
  • Developing/revising Academic Accommodation Plans (AAPs) and Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for students with disabilities;
  • Facilitating accommodations such as testing accommodations, note taking, alternate media, adaptive equipment, ASL interpreting, etc.;
  • Collaborating with others to plan and provide students with support in navigating the college processes related to enrollment, matriculation and onboarding;
  • Utilizing multiple measures to determine appropriate class placement;
  • Providing specialized academic, career, personal, and disability management counseling to students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds;
  • Monitoring and tracking students' academic performance and progress in degree objectives to assure effective use of services and successful attainment of program objectives;
  • Effective use of computerized data management systems (SARs and AIM);
  • Maintaining confidential records; accurately recording and completing data entry of information needed to complete mandated reports and service records;
  • Serving as an advocate for students with disabilities to facilitate equitable access to dual enrollment programs and students transitioning into the community college;
  • Assisting in the building of collaborative relationships with college faculty, high school faculty/staff and community partners;
  • Collaborating with high school and college instructors, counselors, staff, and community partners to assist students in accessing appropriate accommodations and resources to support the student in the pursuit of their educational goals;
  • Participating in professional development activities related to student achievement and equity, program development and review, student activities, high school outreach, and faculty committees;
  • Participating and assisting with in-service training for faculty, staff, and community;
  • Providing liaison services between students with disabilities, faculty, staff, and appropriate campus and community support systems;
  • Providing liaison services between the Clovis Community College DSP&S program, Clovis Community College Dual Enrollment program, transition programs and feeder schools.
  • Will collaborate with Clovis Community College Student Services, Instructional Vice-Presidents and deans to ensure that appropriate services to TTC and DuE students are provided;
  • Participating in the preparation of budgets, state reports, grants, and other reports as directed;
  • Working with other DSP&S counselors to provide support for students navigating educational pathways utilizing Clovis Community College's Guided Pathway model;
  • Working assignments include a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekend, on-line or off-campus as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Educating constituents on the different legalities surrounding secondary and postsecondary disabilities laws and access rights;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices; AND
(1) Masters in rehabilitation counseling; OR
(2) Masters in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling or a bachelors degree in marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); AND
  • Fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities; OR
  • Two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent in one or more of the following:
    • Counseling for students with disabilities; OR
    • Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent; OR
(3) A valid California Community College Credential; OR
(4) The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Experience counseling with students in college-level disabled students programs;
  • Experience working with students of various diverse backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act;
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA);
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology;
  • Demonstrated ability to work and plan independently;
  • Knowledge of Dual Enrollment policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of K-12 policies and procedures for establishing and implementing special education services and 504 plans;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment:
177 - 181 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $60,678 - $91,350 based on education and experience. An annualdoctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to theVice President and College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
