Stafford County Public Schools is Hiring a Coordinator of Special Education Transition - 11 Month Near Stafford, VA

Job Title: Coordinator of Transition

Location: Student Services

Pay Grade: Administrator and Professional Salary Scale A06

Work Calendar 11 month

FLSA Status: Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

This position plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless transition of students with special needs from school to post-school life while promoting inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of their transition process.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Identifies transition services provided by vocational rehabilitation, vocational education and special education.

  • Collaborates and communicates with, and on behalf or, parents, students, administrators, advisory committees and business and industry to facilitate optimum transition and vocational special needs services.
  • Utilizes assessment reports to assist in the development of transition planning.
  • Facilitates the involvement and inclusion of parents, related professionals and clients in the interdisciplinary transition team-planning process.
  • Participates in the application for grants.
  • Develops appropriate transition and vocational goals and objectives utilizing the student’s functional and vocational assessment information.
  • Assist in identifying job placement sites within the community of individuals with disabilities.
  • Coordinates the referral process for vocational assessment to include Project Pert.
  • Selects utilizes and interprets formal and informal vocational assessment tools.
  • Implements job support services to assure successful work adjustment and employment success.
  • Assists in providing technical assistance to employers and work supervisors to enable students with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Assists in providing career and personal counseling to students with disabilities.
  • Evaluates transition and vocational services being provided to students with disabilities.
  • Conducts, analyzes and reports on follow-up surveys of students with disabilities who have exited the school system.
  • Oversees the development of new programs to meet the needs of students and employers.
  • Assists in the development and revision of special programs for individual students which may include IEP’s, ITP’s, 504 plans and other intervention strategies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Hold Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Hold Special Education licensure/certification required.
  • Experience the area of Vocational Special Needs preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge of community and state programs and organizations, which can be utilized in providing transition, and vocational special needs services.
    • Knowledge of vocational curriculum.
    • Knowledge of the grant writing process.
    • Knowledge of computers and a variety of computer applications.
    • Knowledge of current legislation, policy issues, and models of service delivery that impact on transition for special needs population.
  • Abilities
    • Work cooperatively with the total staff.
    • Relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
    • Demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
    • Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
    • Assess individual needs and performance.
    • Address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes.
    • Adapt to change and maintain flexibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperatures are moderate, and can also include outdoor responsibilities, with exposure to weather conditions.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
  • The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objections by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: feeling, grasping, handling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.
